[You get a mildly interesting sight, vatheon; Cynthia with her hair up in a ponytail, casual clothes on, and a Gible in her lap. The gible is gnawing on a melon that's about the perfect size for its mouth.]So! There are some new trainers out there that are raising baby pokemon. I thought it would be a good idea to talk about making sure they're ( Read more... )

Pokemon are tools, weapons. Dumb things to be used as humans see fit. It's what they are, Cynthia. [Arm's crossed.

Here we go again, the same old argument.] To think of them as anything else is impractical at best and makes one weak.

[Yep. And the arguments get slowly more personal each time. She takes out a pocket knife, holding it up to him.]

This, Silver, is a tool. It needs nothing. Thinks nothing. Feels nothing.

[She sets the knife down, and gently puts a hand on Golbat's head.]

This is a living, breathing creature. Sentient and sapient. If this is your tool, then one could argue that you were your father's tool. And I don't believe that for a second. You can't allow your fear of attachment block this truth, Silver.

Because LJ is a ho like that. :| brbstealingpknm August 30 2011, 05:16:49 UTC
I don't have a fear of attachment you idiot. Just because he --[A shake of his head and his hands fisting.]

Dad -- Dad would never use me as a tool. I'm his only son -- his blood. You don't know him! He might be a coward but he would never use me like that. [.... You never know Silver. You really don't know.] Pokemon are the things he uses. And why shouldn't he? They are animals. they're not even human and yet everyone says to treat them with respect and why? Because you might hurt there feelings. Boo Hoo. So. What. They obey anyway.

So you'll make your pokemon suffer the same hurt that your father made you suffer? That's a bit selfish, isn't it?

Your father used people just as much as he used pokemon. He may have been a good father to you, I can't know if that's true or not... but he was not a good person beyond that. Don't you detest those who pick on the weak so that they feel strong? Because that's not strength. And you know that.

But that's what you're doing.

.... The way of the world is the strong rule the weak. And why shouldn't they? The weak are useless, pathetic. [It might not be noticed, but his retort isn't just sprouted off as if it's the only way in the world. The months here - the trainers - everything - those doubts are starting to gain more than a foothold.

Not that Silver is letting it show, as best he can.] My pokemon obey, that's all that matters. As long as they know that I'm the boss... why -- That's all that matters.

[..Right?]

If you're looking to nature for the "way of the world", then there is the whole "survival of the fittest" theory. But really, the way nature works is that those who survive, thrive. Then again, all an animal really aims to do is eat, sleep, and have sex.

...It's still rather true for humans, but there's a lot more to it. Nothing is so simple as what you are saying. But I think you're starting to realize that humans are pack animals, and we function in groups. That's why trainers carry a team with them. They don't serve as tools, but as pack mates, so to speak. Like a pride of luxray, or a pack of mightyena.

[..... .He's silent for a while, obviously thinking this through. He can't deny that the comparison makes no sense, but it's still leaving a bitter taste in his mind - still something that he'd rather shove away and not think about.] Hmph. They are tools, why else would we carry them if not to use them for protection against wild pokemon? Maybe for ble-- other trainers they are companions, but to me? A pokemon is just a tool, it's only worth in how strong it is.

[... at least he thought about you said?]

And why is that, Silver? Why will you keep them at arm's length?

You know it's not because compassion makes you weak. You've seen plenty of evidence proving otherwise, proving the contrary. That truthful answer is what you need to be able to admit to yourself.

Because they are tools! Why should I waste compassion on things that were born to fight? Hmph. Mine are plenty strong without it. Anyway, the one who beat me just got lucky - if this wasn't Vatheon, I'd have won. [It's not just arrogance talking, but a large, large does of injured pride and ego.]

...I want you to try it. Take a one week trial run! See if your pokemon's determination in battle improves if you treat them better.

If I'm wrong, you can go right back to the way things were. If I'm right...

We'll have to find an impartial judge for before and after. Is there anyone who hasn't really confronted you yet?
