pick and choose

I am on a double dose of a psychoactive substance.

As i type this it is affecting my central nervous system. Use of this substance can result in a medical dependancy, and can also cause anxiety, tremors/muscle twitching, insomnia, headaches, respitory alkalosis, heart palpitations, peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal disturbance, a rambling flow of ( Read more... )

Yeah, the media say a lot of things - they also say that the food we eat is bad for us, so clearly it's much better for us to not eat it, right?

I'm guessing someone's given you grief over certain lifestyle choices.

They've just this week outlawed synthetic cannabinoids in my state.

I've always campaigned for the decriminalisation of marijuana, and have also been campaigning for this law not to be passed regarding the synthetics.

I've just had a few people give me the 'drugs are bad' speech, or the 'you're 30, when are you going to grow out of this phase' kind of thing.

i smoke weed. i smoke a fair bit of weed. i hardly ever drink these days, and dont take any other kind of recreational drugs. i also dont even drink coffee or red bull except for weekends.

I just feel like my lifestyle choice to have a joint at the end of a hard day should NOT be seen to be akin to some junkie in a gutter taking a hotshot of heroin, but more like the glass of wine or beer a lot of people have at the end of THEIR day.

just trying to point out that unless you abstain from ALL substances that can alter your mood, body or body chemistry - you cant really say shit against *drugs*. Just trying to get people to open their mind a little bit.

Yep, there's definitely a difference between marijuana and heroin - heroin is definitely a drug of dependence, whereas weed and booze are about the same vis-a-vis dependence. I choose the latter, though I have cut down dramatically since going quitting that horrible abattoirs job. I drink less coffee than I did ten years ago, usually having just one cup with breakfast because my caffeine tolerance was shot to buggery by the time I was 30 - if I have two coffees in a row or strong tea on an empty stomach I feel really green around the gills.

I have a friend who used to be a functioning heroin addict - he makes the distinction between "addict" and "junkie" in that an addict still has their humanity and can still function more or less normally and still has his scrupules and morals whereas the junkie doesn't give a shit about anything except scoring that next fix. He's written a book about it which will be published later this year.
