Happy 4th to the Americans on my flist! I celebrated by sleeping in and then going to see "People Like Us" (the new Chris Pine/Elizabeth Banks movie), which I quite enjoyed. There were a few saccharine and/or contrived moments, but overall I really liked the acting and the characters.
I've been falling behind on my flist of late. Not sure why, but I'm going through a cycle of not really wanting to read anything in any of my usual fandoms. For about a solid week I was reading almost nothing but ice hockey RPF, of all random things, and then I had several days completely eaten by the
Adrien English mystery series by Josh Lanyon, which I can't recommend highly enough. (Hat tip to
justinlovesart for convincing me to go out and buy them.
rian219, didn't you also recommend them to me way back when?) I'm not even a particular fan of mystery novels, but the central relationship in the series -- between a bookstore owner and a closeted L.A. cop -- completely drew me in, to the point where I read the last four novels (of five total) in two and a half days. And then I promptly went back and started rereading all the good bits. Funny, sexy, smart, addictive: read them!
In an effort to try to get Adrien and Jake out of my head, I've started rereading a few other M/M novels by folks on my flist:
Equilibrium by
meredith_shayne and
Great Restorations by
libby_drew. Both are lovely to sink into again. :-)
