Books and a movie

Happy 4th to the Americans on my flist! I celebrated by sleeping in and then going to see "People Like Us" (the new Chris Pine/Elizabeth Banks movie), which I quite enjoyed. There were a few saccharine and/or contrived moments, but overall I really liked the acting and the characters ( Read more... )

I can't remember the last time I was so obsessed with a pairing! I wish there were ten more books. :-)

And now a terrible question: who do you love more? Adrien or Jake?

That is a terrible question!

I'd say I adore Adrien as a friend or brother type, but I fell in love with Jake.

I'm sure you're just shocked. ;-)

Oooh, I love Adrien and Jake, too. I'm so glad I was a little bit late finding them, and didn't have to live with any cliff-hangers while waiting for the next book.

Have you read Jordan C Price's Psycop series? She has two amazing characters - Jacob and Vic. You can read about them here: http://psycop.com/

Hee, I recall seeing your name on one of the AE discussion forums I found when searching frantically for MORE, MORE, MORE. Unsurprised to see you'd already discovered these two.

I'm so glad I was a little bit late finding them, and didn't have to live with any cliff-hangers while waiting for the next book.

OMG, me too! Especially after book 3, when I was ready to tear my hair out. :-)

Thanks for the link -- I'll check that out!

Yep, I did recommend them. Love Adrien and Jake! And I also reread my favourite bits, quite frequently. I'm pleased to hear you're reading that other thing too, haha. :)

I thought so! I feel like an idiot for waiting so long to track these books down.

I've reread that other thing several times now. :-)

But there's no many books to read, it's so hard to keep track of them all. And like someone else said, at least you didn't have to wait to see how it ended. I spent ages hanging out for The Dark Tide.

Haha, this is true. I'm so glad I got to read them all in one big burst.

Sounds like a perfect way to celebrate the 4th! :)

And thanks for the book rec. I need more m/m original fic in my life. Have you read the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling? The sixth one just came out so I'm reading that right now. Total fanfic, but I like wizards and swordfighting, and when the two heroes are also fucking, I'm basically sold. :D

It really was quite lovely!

Ooh, thanks for the rec. I haven't heard of that series. I'll have to look into it. :-)

It's funny -- sometimes I'm not in the mood for original fic at all, and sometimes it's all I want. I guess it's like cycling between fandoms too, which I do pretty regularly.

The days I read those books, I had a hard time sleeping, they were in my head all the time.

OMG, yes. And I couldn't concentrate on work either. I wanted to stay home and just finish the next book. Or reread from the beginning!

I can't even tell you how many hockey RPF stories I read that week. I don't know what the draw was, except I guess that it was almost like original fic. Sometimes I found the character dynamics sort of irritating and yet I still kept reading. :-P

Hockey fic is great. Hockey RPF creeps me out. I mean, I love the sport, but those are real people! Not only that, but most of them are mere kids. I just can't look at an 18-year-old rookie on the ice and have those thoughts about him. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

But hey, to each her own.

Haha, I can see that. What perhaps helps(?) is that I actually don't watch hockey at all -- I find it boring. *ducks flying tomatoes* So these people are pretty much original characters to me. They're always of age in my head, LOL.

That said, I do read occasional RPF for people I'm more familiar with. It did weird me out at first, and it's generally not my first choice. But some of it is just really, really good. :-)
