The more Olympics I watch, the more I feel like a lazy bum spending hours on my couch while these amazing athletes light it up across the world, haha. But I can't resist. :)
I'm pretty much rooting for team USA, even though I do think I should be more about Canada. And I'm not a native of either. But I really, really, really want America to win it. Weird, but there ya go :)
Power to you! :) I think USA has looked pretty darn good so far in the tournament (although I honestly thought Russia carried more of the play in their game on Saturday and deserved to win). One of many teams I'm scared of on Canada's behalf.
Absolutely - Russia were really strong and very unfortunate. I'm not even sure if I think the US will or could win, I just want them too. And regardless of the outcome, a USA v Canada Olympic game will be awesome to watch :)
There won't be a repeat of the 2010 USA vs. Canada finals, unfortunately. The way the brackets work now, the latest that game could happen would be in the semi-finals.
I have total, complete Olympic Fever. I've been watching the events nonstop, streaming them at work even. I can't tear myself away from the screen if I try

I am excited for the women's final. I thought the previous matchup of Canada/US was the second most exciting game I've seen in the Olympics so far (behind US/Russia men -- holy cow, was that worth waking up early for). I found myself rooting for the Canadian women in that first game for whatever reason, even though I feel like I should root for the US, partly because they've got the only female coach -- I feel like I should support them! (And, yeah, I'm American too. *g

I'd say Canada out-chanced Finland, easily. But it was one of those games like you talked about, with a lot of neutral zone trap and defensive play. Not the most exciting to watch, unlike Russia vs. USA which I agree was maybe not as good a game in terms of the level of play, but was a lot more fun to watch.
Oh, as a team Canada definitely out-chanced Finland -- but this article suggested that Selanne's line out-chanced the Toews line. (I read this with Google Translate since I don't speak French, so I may have that wrong! *g*) I definitely want Canada to win, but I also really, really want Toews to have a good tournament, so I'm paying attention to little stuff like that. :)
That sort of defensive stuff is like watching the Devils or the Predators -- snooze! But I'm sure Switzerland is going to be more of the same.
Honestly, I've never seen curling in my life and am not too terribly eager to start -- BUT I would love to watch some of the CBC's videos on hockey and stuff, so I have thought about trying to get some sort of Canadian proxy. Just need to look up how!
Oh, it's been so long since I've seen hockey recs on LJ! And I'm glad that some of these fic are not newly posted, because I can never read fic when I'm in the thick of writing it, so there are long stretches of 2013 where I missed the good stuff. And then once it's past, how do you find it? Kudo or hit count isn't always the best metric.
I see a few of these that I was lucky enough to beta, but there are a bunch I didn't know about, so thank you. <3
Yeah, I don't see many recs here at LJ (except svmadelyn usually does some in her Monday posts, I think). I feel like reccing is much more common in some of my past fandoms -- Harry Potter mainly, I guess because it's so huge that you couldn't possibly find all the good stuff without other people's pointers. Hockey RPF is relatively small, so sometimes I feel like there's not much point in reccing because we all read the same stuff. But you're right, not everyone sees everything; plus, I know I have some folks on my flist who just dabble in the fandom.
In any case, glad to point you to stuff you hadn't seen! :)
I have been watching hockey religiously in the last few months and am totally addicted now. Also been reading a ton of fic on AO3, but eager to read a few on this list that I haven't yet. YAY!
But nooooo, don't root for the Blues. :) As a Hawks fan I hate them. Honestly, though, it's probably a good year to follow them -- I have a sinking feeling they're going to beat the Hawks in the second round, and they have as good a shot as any team at the Cup. :/
Aw, Texas Heat was the happiest story ever! And I started reading cherryvanilla stories first in this fandom, so they hold a special place in my heart. :-)

If you have access to a Canadian proxy or VPN, you can catch all the events (including curling) on CBC's website. http://olympics.cbc.ca/online-listing/grid.html

Though considering my location and the awesome that is Oshie, I might need to start following the Blues.
