Greenwood Ave Restaurant Review 4-3-09

Gainsbourg
8550 Greenwood Ave, Seattle

Summary: (4)
Visited 4-3-09. This is a bar trying very hard to feel "french" (or what an American who has never been there thinks a French bar would be like). Gloomy and artsy, with absinthe - that makes it "authentic", right?

Atmosphere: (4)
Dark, trying too hard to be artsy. Had an odd scent, couldn't figure out what it reminded me of...
Had a black and white movie projected against back wall, distracting.

Clientele:
Odd mix of ages/types.

Drinks: (me - 5 / S - 7)
S had sidecar - good. I had a kir but tasted like they used either chambourd or the cheap cassis.

Food: (8)
* Cheese plate - yum!
* Steak frites - very good, fries were decent.
* French onion soup - decent, not fantastic.
Plates came out at all different times. To be fair, the menu specifies that's the case. Was weird when trying to have dinner together though.

Portions:
Steak was 4oz - nice and small for one person.

Price: (ok for a friday night out)
Decent for the portion size.

Quality of Wait staff: (4)
Sloooowwww.......

Attitude of Wait staff:
Don't know, didn't have enough interaction with any one person to tell.

Music:
Trying to be jazzy french cafe-y.

Bathroom:
* Men's - n/a
* Women's - n/a
