I agree with you almost straight down the line, except in Graphic Work, where I've read 4/5 of the noms. I put Rat Queens first, Ms Marvel second, Saga 3rd (because middle-book syndrome), and Sex Crims 4th, all above No Award.
I did put editors above No Award in the long form category, but you make an excellent case for eliminating the categories. Ditto on semiprozine.
I wanted to like Live, Die, Repeat more than I actually did, but it does have problems. Emily Blunt is awesome, but the character isn't quite as strong as she was in the book. Cruise is miscast, again. There's the horrible scene where he tries to romance Blunt, a type of scene I'm so bored of seeing, even if (as some have argued) that it was meant to be knowingly creepy.
Worst of all, the ending is an abject mess and totally ruins the videogame metaphor of the film.
I'm perhaps being slightly harsh on the film. But even accepting its merits, it's not award-worthy.
(haven't read the book) Cruise is perfectly cast. He has two modes that sometimes overlap - determined action hero and punchably smug git. He plays both in this movie, and the great thing is that everyone else wants to punch him too
