I did a double-take on that one too. Apparently he was born and raised in the U.S., apprenticed with Fred Rogers, and then came north to work for the Mother Corp.

So while his best-loved work was Canadian, he was American. (Although he became a Canadian citizen eventually, so hey.)

I suppose you could argue that he's not an "American children's entertainer" in that he was not an entertainer of American children... but that kind of pedantic nit-picking is perhaps best saved for my law essays. Speaking of which...
