As much as I hate to use Wikipedia as a primary source of knowledge, I ran across an article there today which provided me with much illumination on the economics of successful online businesses like Netflix and Amazon, and the success of the web in general

Nooooo. Do not use Wikipedia and Primary in the same sentence! It is a tertiary resource! Yes, indeed! Tertiary.

Still, there is much useful and interesting information there!

You want primary sources? It was a delightful article in Wired about ?? two years ago? Just about. See here. That'd be yer primary source, right there. The Long Tail guy also has a blog, which makes for an interesting way to waste any time you're not otherwise using. I used to have it linked but my bookmarks crashed on the work machine and I don't have it anymore
