The narrative in this sounds so distinctly Rose. The way her observations are phrased felt completely in character to me, and I enjoyed the nicknames she threw out here and there. (She and Sawyer should have a conversation...)

The last line was perfect for this. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Rose's inner voice comes relatively easily to me--we must have similar senses of sarcasm or something (but she pulls it off better than I). I like writing her for that reason, and it's good to know that others think she sounds in character, so I'm not deluding myself.

I think Sawyer is avoiding a conversation with Rose because he knows she would wipe the floor with him! However, it would be fun to hear it.

I'm glad you liked it, even in the morning. I wanted a look at our newcomers while events weren't so lively, and since Rose was keeping her suspicious eyes on them, she elected herself POV.

Thank you! There are a lot of good nickname-givers on the beach, aren't there? Rose, Sawyer, Miles, late lamented Shannon &c. It makes things more enjoyable for us viewers.

What a lovely story! I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the new people through Rose's eyes. The details about the bats and calligraphy were really interesting and such a unique window into Miles's personality and his friendship with his 'colleagues'. Great work!

Thanks! We need more backstory on the new arrivals and since Rose is kind enough to go looking for stuff, I took advantage of it. I'm fond of Miles and curious as to whether the hot-tempered Confirmed Dead Miles or the more mellow flashback Miles is the one his team mates saw. I picked Chinese art and calligraphy for him kind of randomly, simply because I knew Ken Leung had had lines in Chinese in some of his previous projects and wondered whether he actually knew any of the dialects or just spoke the lines phonetically. Pulling that trick with Square Word Calligraphy seemed to be Miles' sort of humor.

I'm glad you liked it. I have fun with Rose--she can be sharp and sarcastic or warm and motherly (and I tend to prefer sharp and sarcastic, but that's easier for me to write).
