hm. i spose the sunday school answer would be no, he shouldnt have stolen it. stealing is breaking a commandment. it isn't 'thou shalt not steal unleeeess you have a really good reason'. the shopkeeper shouldnt have been greedy and raised the price so high, but one sin doesnt excuse another. also, johann should trust that God will take care of his wife, whether that be through medical means gained honestly or through her death and end of suffering.

Also, he's very likely to get caught, meaning separation from sick wife. furthermore, if they did find some radium stuff like that, it probably would be worth 10K euros, for R&D and production, so it's really harming the shopkeeper and other people.
