729 days? One day short? Why not issue an official fuck-you to our troops? This country is - day by day - more and more a disgrace. *hangs head in shame*
Small oversight resulting in miscommunication between planning and benefits people. Should be cleared up pretty quickly before your neck gets too sore from head-hanging.
I do hope so. It would be freaking horrible if that were done deliberately as a cost-cutting measure or something. Reflexively, I find it hard to accredit government bureaucracy with good will.
I've heard of some shady, sleazy stop-loss measures taken on occasion to slow attrition, but I don't know of anyone joining the military today that isn't warned about those tactics by other people before they enlist.
*shrug* I don't know who gets warned and who doesn't - one would hope that recruits would go into things with eyes wide open on that, but I've heard the stories of the kinds of lies recruiters tell to prospective recruits. An old friend of mine, who I met when I was 19, served in Desert Storm, and he laughed his brains out when I asked him about educational opportunities in the armed forces. *shrug*
I really hope this is temporary. We as a country owe it to those soldiers to provide benefits to them upon their return. It's the least we can do to pay back for their sacrifice.

I'm sure now that there are Senators involved who can use this as an opportunity to grand-stand, the issue will be "resolved" post-haste.
