So the nursing supervisor at my mother's extended care facility called bright and early this morning ( to talk about palliative care )

It's also in accordance with her own thoughts on the subject. She doesn't want them to try and resuscitate her if she stops breathing and she believes that her late husband also didn't want those measures when he was at his last. In fact, they'd discussed it and made out one of those initial-the-terms living wills for each of them though I don't recall if my step-dad's was ever used or even dug out (or, really, if he'd even made one - I know my mom did years before he died because I have hers on file here.)

My mother is also very religious so to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord. She also has two late husbands, a sister, tons of old friends from the orphanage plus her parents she never really knew and a slew of other relations waiting.

It sounds like you've made the right choice. I hope the change in treatment continues to help keep her more like herself and protect her dignity.
