I don't remember ever hearing in ancient history class that Caesar might have been the father of Brutus. The older I get, the more I find out how much more there was to learn in school then we did. It's appalling what I did not learn about the philosophers, and how much of 'history' was actually the prejudices of the people writing the books and the teachers that I had.
Caesar may well have been thus. He had this affair with Servillia for ages and ages. Brutus was slated to marry Julius' daughter, but the night before the wedding, Servillia shows up at some unseemly hour needing to tell him something, she and Caesar retreat into his office, and the next thing you know: no wedding. (Proponents of this theory of course speculate that she was telling Caesar that he was about to allow a marriage between siblings, which was not kosher to Roman sensibilities.) Caesar had a tendency to forgive Brutus slights against himself that he probably wouldn't have accepted from others...It's a valid theory.
