[Admittedly, he's surprised and more than a little relieved; after searching over a day for him, to have him just.... turn up like this is a nice surprise. Still though, while the intensity and urgency in Itachi's manner isn't entirely unexpected, given what happened, it's also a bit unsettling. He frowns a little; dammit, Itachi, he's been worried about you.]
I just crossed back into Fire Country a minute or two ago. Where are you?
[This is not what Itachi needs to hear. Not after finally having a day to pull himself together, only to return to a situation that could be just as tenuous.]
I am at our campsite. What are you doing in Fire Country?
[He hopes that Kisame hasn't gone there searching for him. The seed of guilt is flourishing as he thinks of how his partner must have felt when he awoke to him...missing, especially since he knows that Kisame saw...that.]
[No, Kisame is a little smarter than that; he had restricted his searching to Rice Country itself, thankfully]
I was invited to visit Leader-sama and Konan--uh, she's his partner and wife, if you haven't met her yet--, and I was just heading back to camp. Leader-sama did say that he'd be glad to have you come over sometime, too.
I could come back if you want, or if you'd rather come see him, I can wait and show you the way. You feeling alright?
[The suggestions and question are casual and straightforward, as nonchalant as Kisame always is--but still, there's a note of cautious awkwardness, a hesitation that shouldn't be there. He's definitely concerned and wants to help however he can, but he's never really been allowed into such personal matters for Itachi before. He's not sure how to handle it, or how to ask, so he's settling for making do with being solicitous and accommodating, and acting as though things are okay unless you give some sort of signal to indicate otherwise.]
[Itachi sees that nothing seems to be wrong with Kisame. But nothing seemed wrong with him before and Itachi would rather not have the responsibility on his shoulders should something else have befallen his partner while they were separated--and it would be all his fault, because he knew and he selfishly left him alone--but getting Kisame out of Fire Country will have to take priority at the moment.
Although this does seem like the most opportune moment to reconvene with the rest of Akatsuki, as he is not sure how long it will take for them to finally gather as a group if they keep splintering as they are.]
Yes, give me your location and wait where you are, or move to a less conspicuous location if need be. I'll come to you and we can continue on to Amegakure. It is past time for us to rejoin with the others.
[Especially after the debacle he had seen had occurred over the Hitomi while he had been...away. He needs to see what damage has been done, even if he doesn't want to face the fallout of that dream. At least since it was
