[ Kakashi didn't want it to come down to this. But he knew it was coming. He sighs. Closing his eye. The possibility of him having to face Itachi -- he knows it's there. Knows that they'll be expected to kill each other, too.

He hopes they won't have to. ]

[ A long pause. The muscles of his jaw clench under his mask, shadows moving. It's like he wants to say something more. But doesn't know how to. ]

[Itachi is watching him, seeing the worn, resolved look on his face. Itachi knows this must be quick as he does not know when Kisame will return and he will no longer be able to contact Kakashi with more information.]

I will send more information should I be able to, but time and privacy are luxuries I cannot afford any longer.

[ Kakashi knows this but he doesn't want to end this call. Because he knows it very well might be the last time he'll be able to talk to Itachi like this. Because the next, they might be standing across each other on a battlefield. And Itachi has a role to play, one that's too important for them to compromise in any way. ]

[ He knows he doesn't have to say this, but... he feels like he should. ]

[This is not something that surprises Itachi, but the thought of it still leaves him with dark look on his face and a feeling in his chest that he knows could get him killed if he gives in to it. So he steels himself and gives a short, sharp nod to Kakashi.]

[And he won't, because Itachi knows that if that meeting ever comes there is only one choice he would make.]
