[Background] There isn't much about Mikado's background story to tell. He was born in a rural town somewhere in Japan and studied there until middle school. He also made friends with Kida Masaomi but after Kida moved to Ikebukuro, he stayed connected to him via chats. It is also through chatting that Kida invited Mikado to continue his high school at Raira Academy where Kida would be studying as well. Mikado took the offer and upon his first night in there, he already encountered the town's famous Black Rider. Kida gleefully remarked at how he was lucky that the town itself seems to be welcoming him in a grand way.
On his first day at school, he was in class with a rather beautiful yet strangely apathetic lady named Anri Sonohara. Mikado found himself volunteering to be the class representative alongside Anri which is probably because of the small crush he had developed for her. He, Kida and Anri easily became good friends. Anri also confides to both about her friend Mika Harima who had been missing and was last known to be Seiji Yagiri's stalker. Mikado and Kida assures to extend their help to Anri if ever she'd need it.
Then at one normal afternoon on his way back home, Mikado bumped into a rather scared girl asking for his help. It seems that the Black Rider was chasing the girl and probably due to panic, Mikado seized her hand and took her away from the place and to his apartment for her to rest. During that whole night, he can't help but wonder about the scar in the girl's neck. A scar that's as if someone sawed her head and placed it back in. It turns out that the said girl, Mika Harima, Seiji Yagiri, Yagiri Pharmaceutical's current president Namie Yagiri and a certain Irish fairy's missing head were all connected and Mikado was able to shed light into all of this by conjuring up a meeting with Namie Yagiri and summoning his gang, Dollars, to help make that happen.
As of where I'd be taking him in his canon, he's already known to be the Dollar's leader by Celty, the Black Rider herself, and Orihara Izaya. His friend Anri would also be a victim to the Slasher incidents and would stay on a hospital for a short while, much to his anxiety. There had also been rumors spreading that the said Slasher was a part of Dollars but he quickly doubted such rumor, firmly believing that anyone in Dollars can't do such thing.
[Personality] The thing about Mikado Ryugamine, 15 year-old high school student of Ikebukuro's Raira Academy, is that he isn't anything special. Physically, he's very regular-looking that people who ever see him might actually never remember him at all if only it wasn't for his cool-sounding name that doesn't really embody who he really is. His personality doesn't help making him stand out too. He's generally shy and nervously awkward to most people he never met or just met. He's also very polite and formal most of the time. His best friend, Kida Masaomi, can speak in account for this seeing that he sees Mikado as a scaredy-cat whom he can't let out his sight and indeed, to some extent, he is. After all, he has never been out of their old, rustic, rural town and moving from there to Ikebukuro's rustling and big city proved to be much of an adjustment for him.
As normal as he may sound though, it isn't really what he wanted. He has always yearned for some sort of change, something peculiar and out of his ordinary, monotonous life to happen. It is one of the main factors as to why he accepted his best friend's invitation to Ikebukuro. His expectations weren't failed though when just on his first day in the city, he has already saw almost all the extraordinary things the town has to offer. A headless biker, a man who's able to throw vending machines as if they're nothing and color-coordinated gangs. Completely astounded by this, he set his heart into uncovering more of what the town has to offer. Anything that'll make his stay in there completely out of ordinary.
But then again, it turns out that Mikado Ryugamine isn't as normal as he may seem or he himself may assume. He was still in his old town when he anonymously established the online gang 'Dollars'. Unlike any other gangs, Dollars didn't imposed any rules. One must simply register with their name in the official site and call themselves acquainted to the gang. Mikado himself never expected the gang to gain so many followers, with said growth to be attributed to a certain sly informant named Orihara Izaya whom he'll also meet once he sets foot in Ikebukuro. When most of the gang members were doing atrocities around the city, Mikado himself despite hiding behind his online name "Tanaka Taro" defended the gang. He felt responsible to clean up Dollar's name which shows how faithful he is to something he himself had started. The Dollars were able to prosper under his anonymous leadership as one of the well-known gangs in Japan.
In addition to that, Mikado has some moments where he becomes very blunt in his way of speaking which is one of his strong points. Most of the time, he absent-mindedly does this and then shifts back to his usual level-headed self. He has a strong sense of responsibility and despite the shy and clumsy nature and would never defer something that should be done. His weaknesses though is probably as common as any other person's weakness. That weakness might as well be his closest friends, Kida Masaomi and Anri Sonohara. He cares about them a lot for they are his only close friends in the city and that he believes that Kida and Anri (but most especially Kida) were the reasons why he was able to adapt to the city and losing either of them would just be unbearable for him.
[Specialties/Abilities] The ability to look so normal. No superhuman abilities here.
[Affection] He's probably going to be shy and awkward at first but he'll open up after a while or so. Love stuff? Oh, you'll probably just get a blushing and flustered Mikado.
[Fighting] There hadn't been an instance where Mikado was subjected into fighting and looking at his build and personality, he isn't one to start a physical fight with anyone. Unless pen stabbing counts but that doesn't matter for now really.
