I did! I saw it today with my brother, we both thought it was great. My favourite part was when Holmes and Watson were sitting together and Holmes was trying to say 'I'm glad you survived' but they were being very british and manly about it and just looked very uncomfortable :D
Oh yes, classic british stiff upper lip. It's so hard to choose a favourite part, but I think that bit that springs to mind immediately is when they were having their little, what can only be described as a tiff in the prison yard.
As a Classic Holmesian, I can aassure you that the gay came with the original package :)
I enjoyed the film, but my problem is that, as a fan of the original books, it just Wasn't My Holmes And Watson. Considering Irene was my other concern, I actually loved her and thought they made her totally awesome, but it just didn't match up with the books, and I can't dissociate the two enough to forgive them that. I'd still go to see another one, though.
That is awesome news, I'm going to have to read the books now. I've always wanted to but just never got around to it.
I think that's the think though, whenever I read a book first I always find the film a bit dissapointing because the characters never quite match up to how you imagined them
Sadly, it's not just personal imagination, it's the whole tone and indeed a great deal of the style and ambience that's different. If it was an appearance thing it would be different, but while the movie was fun it's lost the Victorian-ness and dignity of Holmes and Watson.
I KNOW, IT WASN'T EVEN IMPLIED GAY, IT WAS SO IN YOUR FACE YOU COULDN'T MISS IT. Several people have informed me that it is indeed an original feature, I can't wait to read the books now
