I'm going to Philadelphia for 6 days at the end of October for a meeting. I'm going to have my evenings off. Any suggestions for fun stuff to do in the city while I'm there?
I'm going to be staying near the convention center downtown. I'm mostly going to have 1 afternoon and evenings off. What would you go see if you had so little time? What would be your "top 5" things to do/see when you have a day off? Also, is there a "gay village" or something like that? Any suggestion for a fun gay bar to go have a drink?
Haha, 'gay village' makes me think of some native village in the middle of africa. We have Midtown Village which is the 'gayborhood', as it were. Its borders are roughly Chestnut St to the north, Pine St to the south, 12th to the east, and 13th to the west. There's a lot of gay bars, etc there but I'm not much of an authority on gay culture so I'm not sure if I'd be the best person to ask. There's Woody's and 12th Air which are more clubby and have a young crowd (like 18 - 23) and there's the Tavern on Camac, Uncles, or The Venture Inn which tend to have an older crowd, but this is all based on my personal homophobic perception, haha. I'm sure there's other places, but I don't know what all is around. 'Fun' and 'Gay' rarely go hand in hand for me, haha. If anything, I'd suggest seeing the art museum because it's pretty famous and all. It's pretty hard to recommend things to do because I live here, ha. Are you staying at the Marriot? I work across the street from there.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'm not a huge gay district fan but I like to visit once when I'm in a new city, just for the the fun of saying I went. It good to have your suggestions, that way I might be able to avoid the tourist traps :-)

There's touristy historic stuff, museums, bars, clubs, theaters, parks, all sorts of stuff.
