Timeline: He's just sent John Marston off with some "Boom Bait" in the DLC Undead Nightmare.

Canon Resource Links: Here and Here

Affiliation: Breeder

Personality:

Landon Ricketts is part of a dying breed of men, and he has the misfortune to have realized it. Especially since one could make the case that he'd killed most of the rest. He has spent twenty-five years of his life as a legendary gunslinger and now looks back and wonder about how in the hell did he let himself get old.

He is a proud man, strong and fast despite his years. He has no qualms about touting his own name and achievements because he feels he has earned the right to. A narcissist who cares little for human life in general, he paradoxically will defend the individual (especially female individuals), as can be seen by his actions in-game.

Ricketts left the States in 1911 to live south of the border, finding himself a place in Chuparosa where he can relax. Unfortunately for him, under that cynical and world-weary exterior is a man who cannot say no to trouble. Mexico is in the throws of revolution, bandits are running wild, and he quickly finds himself seen as an unofficial lawman-cum-savior by the people of the small village. At times, he'll even assist the Mexican Rebels despite his obvious lack of concern for their grand picture.

Landon is a man who focuses on the here and now. The fate of the human race is up to the other folk to worry over; he just wants his cards, guns, and drinks. He has seen all he wants of the world and is tired of it.

Not that he's going to just lie down and die quite yet.

In the DLC Undead Nightmare, Landon Ricketts has relocated to Casa Madrugada, a small town with no defenses against the zombies that are suddenly dotting the landscape. Except him. In the game, Casa Madrugada is a permanent safe-zone because of Landon Ricketts.

A few quick notes; Landon Ricketts is known to say "Thank God my wife died" and also "That's why I never got remarried". He may also have a son, as a certain Kyle McGinty has a distinctive resemblance to him and in some versions of the game, he is named Kyle Ricketts.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Landon Ricketts is a gunslinger who was the best of the best in the old days. He will speak of how good he was with the tone of a man mourning and almost angry at the fact that time waits for no man. He was the best; people still speak of him in awe, but now he has slowed down and he feels betrayed by his own immortal legend.

The fact that he is still capable of singlehandedly defending an open town against countless waves of the undead at sixty years of age probably only emphasizes how incredible he must have been in his heyday.

Additional talents are his being an accomplished poker player (and possibly an accomplished cheater), a capable horseman, and having a sharp tongue.

Weaknesses are few and far between. He will bemoan his age, but is willing and able to fight. I personally see his biggest weakness as fearing for his legacy. He has lived on his reputation and fame for years; having it suddenly stripped from him at this late date in his life will be a trial.

Also, like many video game characters, he cannot swim.

Samples

First Person Sample: [The Gear flicks on, showing a well-worn face with an impressive mustache. The older man doesn't seem to realize that the device has been activated as he examines the newfangled thing. There is a small, unimpressed snort from him as he glances somewhere just off-screen.]

Now, how is a man like me supposed to ride a horse like you? What I've got ain't exactly fancy, but I'm not about to let it burn to ashes.

[His attention returns to the Gear, finally noting the that it's doing something.]

Huh, well I'll be...The principle behind this here thing is like a telephone, innit? Somethin' like a fast-acting telegram?

[He frowns in concentration, still trying to decipher the Gear. It's quite a jump in technology to someone fresh from 1911.]

Third Person Sample: [As he stares out at the sun rising in the east, Landon feels his age once again creeping up on him. The undead hordes had been difficult enough to wrap his mind around, but now he was expected to travel hither and yon across some new world filled with these improbable animals the local folks call "Pokemon"?]

[He was too damn old for this. His retirement had been interrupted by the mob of flesh-eating demons, sure, but it had still been his retirement.]

[The horse, Pokemon, thing next to him shifts and snorts familiarly. She really was a lot like the horses back home, if one manages to ignore the fact that her mane and tail were made of fire. Beyond that though, the filly represented one of the few semi-recognizable things in this crazy world. He absently reaches out to pat her neck and she calms down. He can feel the pulse of her life under his glove and the heat from the fire that somehow flows through her.]

[It seems like he does not have much choice but to start over. Landon scowls a bit and "harumphs" moodily at the task he will be facing. Men like him were never meant to try to rebuild their reputations at his age. Men like him should be dead by then.]

[The hand not petting the horse twitches towards his empty holsters. The missing weight on his belt felt almost more unnatural than the feeling he had gotten when around the undead folks. After twenty-five years of killing men, being without his revolvers was, perhaps, the most aggravating and downright distressing thing he could imagine. It didn't matter that supposedly no one else was allowed to bring their weapons with them; he had spent his best years with his irons as a comforting presence at his sides.]

[He shakes his head, pulling himself out of his reverie. Turning to the horse, he swings himself up onto her back and settles himself before she begins an easy trot.]

Thatta girl. Let's go see what we can find.
