In which I randomly talk about a couple of Boys' Love titles in my possession, and make absolutely no sense at all. I also end up complaining about useless things because that's a fun way to pass the time. Or not.
My collection of Takarai Rihito's works. It still really bugs me that the licensed version of Seven Days: Monday-Thursday basically had a tiny print run and thus left latecomers in the dust. I like physical copies, but I did end up getting the digital version for the sake of reading. What really bothers me about that is the fact that, for whatever reason, they decided not to provide the front and back cover. I mean, why.
That said, I wonder how they decided which titles got digital releases over physical, because Hana no Mizo Shiru/Only the Flower Knows being
digital only makes me sad. Though that may be because I'm worried that people, especially the fans, aren't supporting it and are keeping to scanlations instead. Bleeeehh whatever I don't know what can you do
Also, digital-only released titles are kind of weird in that they actually do miss a couple of things you wouldn't know/realise; that is, the back cover and, when applicable, the extras behind the dust jacket that some manga have. I don't get it at all, because why wouldn't you want to keep it as close to the original as possible? No? Just me?
And here's some random/kinda recent BL that arrived; Only Serious About You 2 (Asou Kai), Warning! Whispers of Love and the Japanese version of The Rule of Standing on Tiptoe (Okuyama Puku), Karejya Naikedo (Sakuraga Mei), and Same Difference (Hiiragi Nozomu).
Tiptoe was a digital-only release, which was why I ended up buying the original version and. I just. How could they not keep the back? It was beautiful. Not to mention the extras behind the dust jacket are cute/hilarious :(
Well, I'm sure there are reasonable explanations for everything, but it's still a shame. I wonder if it was worth losing those, but getting the colour inserts kept in actual colour instead. Why can't I just be greedy and have both.
And while I'm here; manga from the Craft Series are incredibly well made (assuming the ones I bought aren't just a fluke or something). I don't think I've seen many other manga publishers bring out something with that level of quality. Or maybe I just buy the wrong ones ffff
That said, it'd be nice if more of Asou Kai's works were licensed, and the same can be said about Sakuraga Mei. Because that would be awesome, okay? Okay.
I'm also wondering about the chances of Okuyama Puku's recently finished manga getting an English release, since the previous two have been already. Will probably end up buying it at some point, since it's getting released in March (and I only have the last two chapters whoops).
And Same Difference was basically a blind buy, based on recommendation via random blog I now check occasionally. Curiosity at its best!
In other news; as the most recent publisher to get into licensing BL, SuBLime is looking very promising. Sure, in a perfect world all titles would be available in digital and print, but how it's working now is pretty good. I mean, any place that allows you to pay by paypal gets points from me (seriously, eManga, I'd buy so much from you if you offered the same :/)
While I'll probably be picking up other titles eventually, I will say Natsume Isaku's
Devil's Honey is totally worth a look. Takatsuki Noboru's
Oku-san's Daily Fantasies kind of... depends, I guess? It's more explicit as well, but has the wonders of censorship in place. (And by that I mean, it's kind of hilarious, and a little sad. Couldn't be helped, though.)
Obviously both kind of depend on personal preferences, etc, so yeah, take it as a grain of salt.
They've also got titles in print lined up (starting in June, I believe), and it's nice to see that Takanaga Hinako's Bukiyou na Silent/Awkward Silence is getting a print release. I... never actually expected it, after finding out that it was being released through JManga (which is currently region locked and thus has all my petty hate/rage). Other nice news was finding out Silent is going to continue past volume 3.
And to finish things
Making completely useless winamp skins is still a horrible time-waster but I will almost always love the end result. Hee.
