Wow, where did three months go? Has it really been that long since I posted? Crap.
Anyway, the summer was pretty eventful around here.
While the OTP crowd was storming the castle in Ireland, we invaded Germany for a Bavarian wedding on Independence Day. The bride and groom were dressed in traditional Bavarian outfits and the ceremony took place next door to the hotel the bride’s family owns. My friend, the groom, a brewer, who made a special wedding brew that, was made even enjoyable being surrounded by old and new friends. I returned to the picturesque Bavarian town, which saw me as an exchange student in 1995. It was not the first time I’d been back, so it was almost like going home. The people and places there are so familiar and comfortable, like slipping into your favorite old sweater. I missed Bavaria.
We rounded out our trip with a visit to the town of Landshut, where every four years they celebrate the Landshuter Hochzeit. It’s a medieval wedding celebration, complete with jousting. Unfortunately, we were unable to score tickets for the jousting, but we caught the parade (twice) and saw lots of great costumes. Everyone was very friendly, yelling “Halo!!’ as they marched by the crowds. The crowds would then respond with another loud, “Halo!”
We were not a week back from Germany, when I packed again, this time heading to Burlington, Vt for a mold conference. My company afforded me this great opportunity to see what was going on the mold field and I got to meet a lot of interesting people. I gained a whole new understanding and respect for our customers. The conference was enlightening and I’m glad that I was able to go. Burlington was a cute town too. J
The rest of July and most of August I was working my tail off 7 days a week. It was great to have some extra cash coming in for those few weeks, but I kind of got burned out on driving to the lab all those days in a row. One of our clients had a big project going on at a University so we had to get the work done on the weekends, while the school was closed.
And the biggest news of this summer, as most of you know already, Tim got hired at IBM! Finally!Yay! It’s very exciting for him and for me. I’m so happy that he finally got what he deserved all a long
Now we are finally coming to my favorite time of the year. The Fall! We are already seeing pumpkins and gourds and it makes me happy. I can’t wait for our upcoming adventures. I am meeting out East on Friday for a crazy weekend of food, football and gambling. The second weekend of October, we are heading to the Northwest to spend our anniversary. We are taking a few days to see Portland, Oregon wine country and Seattle. I’ve never been, but I’ve heard it’s beautiful so I am really looking forward to it.
And finally, I’ve been going through some
. I’ve always been a nervous, anxious and impatient person. Lately, it’s starting to interfere in my life in the form of anxiety attacks and as in the case of Germany, a full blown panic attack. I am not exactly sure what is causing it, a number of things seem to be at work, nothing to do with Tim or our relationship, but work is a big thing and driving and traveling seem to contribute. Anxiety and panic attacks are scary things. It is like one side of your brain is saying; there is nothing wrong, but the other side is freaking you out. Then the physical symptoms such as clammy hands, upset stomach, heartburn, dizziness and nausea start, and you feel like crap. It’s a snowball effect. I’m currently taking some anti-anxiety medicine and it really is helping me to feel a lot better. I am also in counseling to help me deal with these feelings. I hope to learn how to control my anxiety and to become a more patient person.
I know a lot of my friends are laid back and “no worries” and it may be hard for you to understand what it is like to feel anxious a lot of the time. Just know that I know that I have this problem and I am working on it, and I hope you understand. I know that I don’t NEED to be at the airport 2 hours ahead, but it makes me less stressed out, so I’m going to do it. Ok? ;) Little things like leaving a little extra early and taking direct flights instead of making connections are helping.
Anyway, I think that’s a sufficient update. Hope to see you all soon in the AZ! We are coming to our best time of the year, weather wise!
