deviantART For those of you who didn't know I had a DA account, or had given up on me ever using it, I'd just like to say... The Redfort Kitchen is open :)
On a related note, have a food meme from
tapperhet:
1. What’s your #1 comfort food?
Unsurprisingly, it depends on my mood, and how hungry I am, and whether I'm the one cooking it! Most of my comfort foods do include rice, though.
Munchies: Salt and vinegar potato chips with coke
Light meal: Redfort margarita pizza (wholemeal crust, fresh tomatoes, basil pesto from the Green Bean cafe in Belgrave), or rice with hard-boiled eggs and tomato slices, heavily salted.
Heavy meal: Mum's beef sinigang (tamarind broth with beef bones, green beans, water spinach and tomatoes), with rice.
Comfort drink: Kahlua with m ilk, or hot chocolate.
2. If you were on a deserted island, what one food would you want to have with you?
From a survivalist point of view, I'll give the Asian answer of rice. From a less serious point of view, I'd have a tropical fruit platter of canteloupe, honeydew, pineapple, jackfruit and lychees.
3. What is/are your signature dishes? (What dishes are you ‘known’ for?)
The Redfort pizza series. The margarita is my personal favourite, the Doctor prefers the barbecue tuna. The crusts are always wholemeal, and I've finally perfected my fresh tomato pizza sauce.
4. It’s Friday night, you don’t know what to cook. You opt for…
Fish and chips from the Green Forest Fish and Chippery in Upwey.
5. What’s your biggest weakness when it comes to food?
Sodium. Which is really bad, considering I inherited high blood pressure from my father. I also have an incredible sweet tooth, considering I practically grew up drinking condensed milk.
6. What food can you absolutely not eat?
Taste-wise, vegemite :x Ethically, veal or other "young" meats. I'll eat lamb because it's what the Doctor's family cooks, and I don't usually get red meat otherwise, but I'd never buy or cook it myself.
7. You need a drink. You grab a…
... water? The Redfort house red is Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvingon, while the bar is usually stocked with Bacardi or Gentleman Jack (Daniels).
8. What’s the most decadent dish you’ve had?
I've had way too many decadent dishes to really answer that... The most recent was dinner last night, which I've featured at the beginning of this post.
9. What’s your favorite type of food?
You can't possibly expect a foodie to answer that!
10. Favorite dish?
Or this!
11. If your partner could take you to any restaurant you wanted, which one would it be? P
The problem with getting the Doctor to take me places is that 1) he's the one with the limited diet and 2) he's not as adventurous. The one I've wanted to go to recently is
Ibuki in Bentleigh, but I know the Doctor wouldn't enjoy it as much as I would, and therefore, I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I would have.
... did that make ANY sense?
So, if it were up to the Doctor to take me somewhere, it'd likely be a place we'd been before, which would either mean
Saffron Cottage in Upwey (which he actually discovered), or
Earthly Pleasures in Belgrave. Or, he might surprise me, which he's been quite good at recently.
12. Are you a soup or salad person?
I prefer heartier soups, but quite light salads. I don't usually order either as an appetiser, though.
13. Buffet, take-out or sit-down restaurant?
Sit-down. You're already taking the effort to go out, after all.
14. What’s the most impressive dinner you’ve ever made?
See above. (and I do!... uh, does anyone even remember that joke any more?)
15. Do you consider yourself a good cook?
I'm getting there. I thought I was pretty good until I read
Ratio by Michael Ruhlman. Now I've busted myself back down to beginner level.
16. Do you know what vichyssoise is?
avec rat? Without googling, I think it's a cold fish stew/soup, of French origin.
Google, however, says I got two out of three right.
17. Who’s your favorite TV cook?
Alton Brown, because he's practically the only cook I've seen on TV. I did watch a lot of the Food Network while I was in Atlanta, and I used to be fond of Emeril Lagasse until two of his recipes totally failed me. My favourite Iron Chef is Chen Kenichi.
18. Can you name at least three TV cooking personalities?
Didn't I just do that?
19. Homemade or homemade from a box?
Either or. I do tend to use packet mixes until I find a good recipe for something. My goal is to eventually replace all the packet mixes I use now with proper recipes. I've never baked something from a box.
20. Name 3 or more other foodies you are going to tag.
The only other foodies I know about on my flist would be
bankevair,
kawaii_mon and
baorin_lee.
