this prompt on the
st_xi_kink_meme: "KIRK, THE FASHION DON'T EXPERT! Everyone knows that Kirk can have anyone he wants (well, almost). Everyone assumes that he knows how to dress to impress. But they couldn't be more wrong. ... Kirk/Spock, please."
The prompt has a second fill by
spdfg, which I highly recommend (it's more relationship-centered).
catc10 commented with a tip where to find pics of Chris Pine. That's how I found the "Kirk style".
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Other Characters: McCoy, Sulu, Uhura
Words: 489
1. His leather jacket
It was his father’s, and he found it in his grandmother’s house. He was 12, and when he asked if he could wear it, Grandma said: “As soon as it fits you.”
She gave it to him when he graduated High school. It was made to last, looked good on him, and men and women told him they loved it. But that’s not why he wore it.
2. His cadet uniform
They do a full-body computer scan for your Academy uniform, so it should be a perfect fit.
But maybe Jim wouldn’t have looked so great in it if Bones hadn’t always done some tugging and adjusting before they left their room.
Jim was alright with that until Joanna came to visit her father. After that, he started to wonder where Bones got that habit from.
3.
The “Kirk style” It was a fashion fad on Earth for a while, but that was totally AN ACCIDENT!
He wore that outfit when he went on a bar crawl in San Francisco with Bones and Sulu, a few days before he became a captain. Somebody recognized him from the comm nets, shot a holo, and sold it to a magazine.
The shoes? Those are his best shoes, very good shoes indeed.
The suit? Was his only suit, bought for Sam's wedding. Jim does neither need nor have much civilian clothing.
The hats? Well… Jim and Bones got into an argument with Hikaru in which street the bar they wanted to visit next actually was. Because they had forgotten for a moment Hikaru was a local, they made a bet. And lost. So? The hats didn’t look THAT bad.
The good thing was it had gone out of fashion again when they returned to Earth after their first mission.
4. His captain’s uniform
Gold is Jim’s color, but the most important thing is that ambassadors, alien queens and other beings of all genders think “Starfleet” and “Federation” when they see the uniform.
If the man underneath it looks like Jim Kirk, that’s just a bonus.
AND…
A Vulcan ceremonial robe
It has its advantages if your father-in-law-to-be is a Vulcan Elder. Not only can you get a traditional robe tailored and embroidered in no time, there might even be an assistant to help with arranging the folds correctly and putting on the sash.
It also helps if you practice a bit walking in a long robe with somebody who, like Uhura, can show you from experience how it’s done: head held high, walking both proudly and gracefully.
But the real secret of looking good in it at your Vulcan bonding ceremony is to embrace with all your heart and soul what it symbolizes: that you and your mate will be two halves of a whole from now on, making each other’s lives complete.
If you feel that way, looking good is the most natural thing in the universe.
