ONE
Scotty had meant well, he really did, when he gave Uhura the tribble. She looked so happy and beautiful caressing it. And Captain Kirk had seen no harm in her bringing it to the bridge. The tribble was spayed, after all, and he, too, found its cooing sounds pleasant and calming.
Nobody could have predicted just how calming its effects would be on Chekov, until the navigator’s head connected with his console, and he started to snore gently. Only Lieutenant Sulu’s quick reflexes saved the Enterprise from crashing into an asteroid due to this unplanned course correction.
TWO
Keenser’s habit to seek out higher ground, like catwalks and scaffolding, is an evolutional trait of his species. His habit to take naps there when on break is entirely personal.
When he overslept one day, the worst was feared, because his signature didn’t show up on scans. But Lieutenant Gaila deduced correctly that he had to be somewhere on top of the warp core, where the level of background radiation, while not dangerous, would block the scans. Because she had explored nearly all spots in Engineering which were covered from outside view within her first month of service, she quickly found the place where Keenser had curled up.
Scotty has assigned her to look for Keenser whenever he’s missing. It works quite well.

After six hours of surgery, Bones felt so tense, he lay down on a gurney, just for a minute, to relax his aching muscles.
When Dr. M’benga found him, he ordered the nurses of beta shift to transfer him to a proper biobed, take his shoes off, and activate the privacy screen.
They were such accomplished pros that they managed all that without waking McCoy.

Vulcan meditation requires a high level of concentration. The trance-like state is entered voluntarily and can be exited at any time.
Still, when the First Officer was spotted sitting in the observation lounge not moving for three full hours, many assumed he had fallen asleep. Spock insists that he closed his inner eyelids on purpose, because he found the lighting too harsh.
Sometimes Vulcans do lie.
FIVE
Only when the transporter gripped him, the jamming field neutralized after two days of fighting rogue Klingons on a desert planet, two days of marching, of ambushes, skirmishes, and pursuit, two without sleep or rest, Jim realized how tired he was.
Even as he stumbles from the platform, his eyes close and his feet start to give out under him. But Bones is there to catch him in his arms before he hits the ground.
AND…
On the torn and tussled sheets, Nyota sleeps on her back, her arms outstretched, most of her braids undone.
Jim’s head rests on her belly. His hair is matted with dried sweat; a bite mark is on his shoulder.
Bones lies face down, with his head buried in the last intact pillow, long scratches on his back.
And in the middle, Spock rests as calmly and serenely as only a Vulcan whose Pon farr has run its course can.
