Attempted Meditation

Aug 25, 2009 10:40

His normal habit of meditation had been thoroughly disrupted on Shore Leave. Between keeping company with Jim and Leonard, meetings and dinners, and the final gathering at the karaoke bar, it had been difficult to find the quiet and solitude necessary. Spock was not complaining; a few days of disrupted meditation was a small price for the connections he was strengthening with his bondmates and the experiences shared with James and his Bones.

Spock settled into his meditation posture, emptying his mind, stilling the otherwise constant thought and categorizing and questioning.

Before he completely emptied his mind, however, he allowed himself to revel in the presence of the bonds within him. Two thick golden ropes, one for Jim and one for Leonard, tying them together, never truly alone.

There were other bonds, lesser threads tying him to James and his Bones and their Spock, his vulnerable younger counterpart. Spock felt just as much love for the young Vulcan as he did for the other counterparts, and a great deal more concern. Still, he would continue to do what he was able to help and to aid healing.

And more threads, troubling threads he had tried to ignore since leaving the alternate Pike in the brig. Shadows of bonds that crossed dimensions. The thread to Pike...

The thread to Pike.

The evening spent with Jim and James and his Bones had been an open sharing and Spock had relaxed his usual mental barriers to both share pleasure and revel in the contact with others, flesh and mind. And, as they drifted contentedly in exhaustion, Spock had felt his mind ring, like a web had been plucked. He had sleepily categorized it as a result of their activities - it had not been unpleasant.

But, in retrospect...

Spock concentrated, the ease of meditation forgotten. He deepened his trance, entered his own mind as an investigator instead of a participant. Rewound and reviewed what he had experienced.

Pleasant exhaustion and the hum of their minds, buzzing lightly under his skin. Quiet murmuring that told him how pleased they were. And the ringing sensation - not originating from his partners at all. And not a ring. A ping. A ping like sonar spreading like a wave through all of the threads Spock carried.

Including the tenuous, barely there thread leading into the darkest part of Spock's internal sky. The thread he suspected led to his counterpart in Pike's universe, the Spock that was bonded and bound to Pike.

Meditation forgotten, Spock messaged James and his young counterpart.

Captain,
I have discovered something of some potential importance and would thus schedule a meeting with you at your earliest convenience.
Mr. Spock

Message to Spock of this universe:

Spock,
I would speak with you with some urgency.
