Private Message to James Kirk, third alternate (gold_ambition)

It has come to my attention that there is another James Kirk on board this Enterprise: you. A fascinating notion, this concept of doubling and redoubling.

In an effort to understand the overlap of universes, I would like to speak with you on the subject. Are you available?

Spock.

Of course. I'm glad to hear of your safe return. Where would you like to meet?

James.

Perhaps the Observation Lounge?

Spock.

The fucking observation lounge. What was it about Spocks? James knew he had to be careful. Extra careful. This Spock had met him. But again, there did not seem to be an unsuspicious way to avoid meeting altogether, and he may as well get it over with.

Perhaps, if Spock did not touch him, he would never know. After all, he'd been angry those few hours, hardly himself, making demands and offers in turn to see if one would stick. He was in much better control, here and now.

Spock did not have to suspect a thing.

She was, of course, precisely on time.

Spock sat at a table in the corner, out of the way of the humans coming and going but with a good view of the stars. She was... fond of them.

It also gave her a good view of the door, to watch for this latest iteration of her Jim.

James was not late, per se, but he was not as early as Spock. Though he was entirely unaware of that fact at first, when the only person visible in the lounge was a statuesque woman of interesting proportions seated with a view of the stars and the door. Her ears were hidden, but there was something familiarily impassive about the woman's expression.

Still. James looked around, waiting.

He did not recognize her. But Spock knew him. There was something quite familiar that she could not immediately recall - she would meditate upon it if required. It had the ring of importance.

Spock stood.
