The strange vulnerability of intercourse in this form was a puzzle, a tangle of illogical reaction. Spock followed the thread of her responses, working patiently at untangling her lack of desire to repeat what had been a most acceptable experience.

The fresh vegetables in her salad were not any particular help - not that she had any expectation for them to, as they were inanimate. But she had reasonably concluded that the nutrients offered would aid her mental tasks.

Spock speared a lettuce leaf with a fraction more force than was absolutely necessary.
