Jim's smile was strained, it was true. Part was being awakened in the middle of the night, his body still a bit sore. Part was the unwanted news about James. But part, it must be said, was his surprise at his own surprise over Spock's activities. He had never sought to curb Spock's sexual expression or exploits. But neither, he suddenly realized, had he really thought about Spock stepping out without him.

Why was that?

"You okay?" he murmured, reaching out.

Spock moved without hesitation into Jim's arms. He was tactile - a characteristic for which, she admitted to herself, she had great appreciation.

"Bill is uncomfortable with me still. I did not intend this."

The touch was comforting, and Jim was glad anew that Spock, as aloof as he'd always been, allowed him this. He laughed gently.

"Bill is complicated," he said, though in reality it was a sort of complication of simplicity it was hard to define. "I wouldn't worry about it; you'll work it out. But how are you? Otherwise."

Jim had asked several times after her well-being.

"As previously stated, I am unharmed, Jim. Nor am I experiencing mental distress. Are you well?"

In such close contact, skin against skin, Spock could not help but feel Jim's tiredness, the soreness that Jim was trying to hide.
