time travel

NPR's Talk of the Nation is airing a show on time travel. This has always been a source of fun daydreaming for me (and I'm sure I'm not alone)- so I'm wondering, if you could, where and when would you go?

Those are great! Storyville, Paris in the 20s, anywhere Henry Miller and Anais Nin were hanging out! Have you seen "Henry & June" and "Pretty Baby"? Also, I think you mentioned reading Tropic of Cancer lately; I have copies of Tropic of Capricorn and The Air-Conditioned Nightmare if you want to borrow.

Be careful when you decide to appear with the baroness though- you might end up taking a bullet!

She was tough!

Iron Rail is one of the places I'm thinking about volunteering, now that I have a car and can get over there easily. As per usual, I just haven't gotten around to deciding what/where/when.

We should go for drinks at the Columns sometime!

I want to see ancient Sumeria--there are competing theories about whether prostitution was sacred and women had equality in their society but little proof.

I want to see Janis Joplin live.

It's a cliché, but I'd like to spend some time with Jesus and find out what he was really like and really said. Of course, it'd be totally frustrating to try to convince modern Christians they got it wrong...

Ancient Sumeria is definitely on my list, for similar reasons. And that reminds me- I would like to go back to where and when the Venus of Willendorf-style statues were in use and find out exactly how they were regarded. Goddesses, some kind of ancient version of I like big butts and I cannot lie, or both/neither? That and the Minoan period on Crete.

Janis would be cool, but it's Jimi Hendrix I'm after. A live performance, and also maybe on plaster caster day? I would so be a fluffer for that project!

Ooh yes, that would be so fabulous. The one time I got to stay at the Algonquin, I tried to conjure up the spirits of Ms. Parker et al, but you know, it just wasn't the same sitting alone at the table pretending!
