A thousand years ago, the Roman Catholic church proclaimed that God (and therefore the world) can be known (and understood) through reason and reason alone. This was one of the causes of the schism between the Roman Catholic & Byzantine Orthodox church. No, but: there's a big difference between Christian faith and its interpretation. Often the two are mixed up...

that, i know. nevertheless, i think you'd appreciate Feuerbach's view of the matter. he's rather sober and "human" in his judgements about religion
