This was really hot. I have more thoughts but mostly I wanted to point out that your poli commentaries are win and super interesting and I agree with a lot of it. I still like President Obama because he acknowledges practicality and accountability, two things that needed more emphasis in the previous administration.
I'm glad you find my commentaries interesting, I need a place to vent all these thoughts since I'm not yelling at people about it everyday like I used to be.
Yes, I am really happy with him for putting an emphasis on accountability both in Congress and among the American people. It's starting to warm my cold heart. I just hope he can actually put that idealism into practice which is a much harder practice and not something I really think is totally possible. He can't make people vote, and without a more diverse electorate he can't have a completely accountable Congress.
HOWEVER, the Supreme Court is accountable to the executive branch and when he called them out in the middle of his speech that was awesome. It's been awhile since a president spoke that frankly about the Court's decisions. Plus, Justice Alito mouthing "not true" on camera as everyone clapped around him was pretty hilarious.
Right, then again his idealism was what got him elected (well okay OBVIOUS OVERSIMPLIFICATION but at least got him the nomination) so that did make people vote. Sadly besides Presidential elections, most people forget that they can vote for things. So I don't think it's gonna be a dramatic overturn anytime soon, but I do think that it's the forward chug chug motion that counts.
Hopefully when President Palin bombs Houston we'll still be in idealistic president mode.
And yes the in-speech pwnage and DIRECT HITness of his speech I approved of. And Justice Alito getting pwnd on camera will not be not hilarious anytime soon.
No, I think you're totally right. It was his idealism, which was very refreshing at that point in American politics, that got him elected. It definitely did have an impact on mobilizing voters but there are certain citizens that idealism can't get them to vote
