This is a pretty standard situation of "Thought" vs. "Emotion" that frames so much debate these days. Flag burning is shitty, yet the right to do so should be inalienable because it is an issue of speech. Abortion is a similar issue - while the emotional response is that it sucks, the issue is about what a person can and can't do to their own body. Same with drugs. Same with guns. Etc. etc. etc.

As Voltaire was supposed to have said, "Madam, I disagree with everything you say, but I will give my life to defend your ability to say it."

Desecration of the flag is horrifying...especially to those who would give their lives to defend what it stands for...but I must defer to Brandor here. A very sane and rational way of looking at it.

As for abortion...not in the same league, and we are not going to go there. ^_^

Are you guys headed to Slicks parents this weekend for the annual shindig?

I will defer to you on the Abortion thing; I know that is a different subject altogether. My point is more about the framework of the debate - One is a 'logical', complicated stance, the other is based in emotional 'gut reaction'. One could, in theory, debate why stealing is somehow logically correct (maybe some sort of 'community', 'shared-earth' argument), it still doesn't make it "right". The emotional aspect of keeping what you own is far too prevalent.

Not this year - we made other plans because SOMEBODY I won't name, but who's name rhymes with BOMB, said he WASN'T GOING. Or implied he wasn't going; we've gone rounds about that. But the end result is the same.
