Hey. I came across you from the comments in Linda Grant's blog. The Norwegian-sounding name caught my attention, and I followed you over here. I've sort of done what you're doing in reverse. I'm Norwegian, but now I'm at uni in England doing Japanese. My best friend does Arabic - I went down to Syria to see her over the holidays. I hope you don't mind that I added you.

Hi! Not at all - I'm adding you back :-)

Whereabouts near Trondheim are you from btw? I lived near Frosta for a while and I have friends in Trondheim its self so I know that area a little bit...

I'm from Melhus, which is about 20 minutes south. A bit of a dump, to be honest...

wow.. i really identified with that.
"i don't know how to be [british/american/whatever] anymore"
and
"people hear my [xyz] and make assumptions. this person is supposed to be like me."

i remember that free part of being abroad, people not assuming that you think like them. like at home you're also a foreigner here only you know it, to everyone else it's hidden.

good luck with hebrew and arabic.. i'm excited, heading over to israel and pal in august, and maybe will visit cairo for a couple of days too. it's been so long! i really related to what you said in another post, about seeing the "egyptian parts" in you-- it's like you become a patchwork of places/cultures that stay in you. like a love affair. :)

A nice thing you're going to learn Hebrew. I love this beautiful language.
