So this morning my computer would not turn on. I'm fairly sure that it's the motherboard, which of course means it has no real solution other than "replacement", which it being Friday and tomorrow being Saturday, with all that that entails, will not be possible until around Monday or Tuesday

Cuz if it's that, it's the motherboard.

It doesn't get to any screen, and the video card is on-board, so it's definitely the motherboard.

Yeah, that sounds about right; one of our old computers on my end did the same thing. Luckily though, you didn't actually lose any files, it's just a question of getting the hard-drive out, and motivation to do that.
