The Lie

Yunho was sitting on the soft green couch (he swore he hated the color with passion, but since Jaejoong was the one decorating their apartment, he had no say in it) as he read the morning paper when suddenly he felt someone sitting beside him.  He didn’t really need to look, but he did anyway.

“What is it?” he asked as he let the older man rest his head on his lap.

“Why did you give me the flower?” Jaejoong asked as he looked up at Yunho, taking his paper away from him so he could get his undivided attention.

“The orchids?” Yunho asked as he looked at Jaejoong in wonder.

“No, the jonquil,” Jaejoong shook his head.

“Jaejoongie~ that was four years ago,” Yunho shook his head as well.  “Why are you asking this now?”

“I just want to know,” Jaejoong argued.  “And you didn’t tell me the truth that time.  I want to know why.”

“Fine, I’ll tell you.”

-.-.-.-.-. flashback -.-.-.-.-.

A young boy walked out of a flower shop with a bouquet of carnations, and a wide smile on his face.  It was Mother’s Day that day, and he wished to give them to his mother.  He had saved up for it.

However, on the way out, he saw another boy about his age standing outside the shop, looking longingly at the bouquets of carnations sold inside.

“Hello,” he greeted as he walked over the small boy.  “Are you buying some carnations for your mother too?”

“I would like to,” the other boy answered with a frown.  “But I don’t have the money.  My mother is in the hospital right now, and I really want to give her. I worked hard all week, but my money now can’t even buy a stem of it.”

He looked over in sympathy, before he decided on something.  He unwrapped the carnations in his hand, and gave half of it to the other boy.  “Here you go.  Give these to your mother.  I’m sure she’ll be happy.”

“Eh?  But what about yourself?” the other boy looked taken aback.

“It’s okay!  I still have more than enough,” he said, motioning at the remaining flowers in his hand.  “And you need this more than I do, anyway.”

The other boy stared at him in surprise before breaking into a wide smile.  “Thank you!  I’ll never forget your kindness!” he exclaimed before he dashed off in happiness, eager to give the flowers to his mother.

-.-.-.-.-. end of flashback -.-.-.-.-.

“My mother was so happy to receive the flowers, that she recovered a month later,” Yunho finished as he kept stroking Jaejoong’s hair.  “You gave us a reason to be happy.  I want to be your reason to be happy.”

“Oh Yunho...” Jaejoong mumbled as he got up to hug the younger man.  “I’m just glad your mother’s alright.  But how did you know it was me?  It could have been someone else.”

“The carnations led me to you,” Yunho said simply.  “I was walking through the school garden when I suddenly smelled the fragrance of a carnation, and when I followed it, I found you instead, sitting across the ferns, just like you did that time.”

And the Truth
