In this ground we all stand on comes nothing with illusion. But only science."
"Many may have dubbed it as deception...
But this is no imagination."
"Years ago, according to the Legend, four young gifted beings have gathered to form The Cuatro.
One is a powerful Illusionist.
A deceiving Mentalist.
A skilled Escape Artist.
And a cunning Magician."
"All four have each their own unique talent. As one they make a thriving team. As individuals, they're interesting... and dangerous."
"It's said that their bloodline still exists. Their skills passed down from generations to generations.
That until now, they're living among us."
The darkness envelops the stadium. The audience all seated and intently listening. The dim lights cast on the stage.
The spotlight appears on stage and three groomed men in suits stand before the crowd.
"For those who believe, no explanation is necessary." The man with the hair that reflects an indigo says. A smirk breaks through his face before he continues.
"For those who do not believe..."
You soon will."
The one with the bright sunny hair at the right speaks.
"See it to believe it."
The spotlight joins at the center to focus on the guy in the middle.
"But remember, the closer you look..."
The audience immediately responds in chorus.
"The less you see."
An explosion of cards comes out of the hands of the middle guy and the crowd cheers. The stadium lights up.
"Good evening, New York."
A VCR suddenly plays from behind and the opening video of the live show appears.
"The Cuatro." An intro background song plays from the speakers; something that would have suited a popular game show with complete trumpets and drums accompaniment, when an anonymous voice booms.
The tanned guy with the dark hair comes on screen with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Kai, the powerful illusionist."
Like a rotating image, the bright haired guy appears on screen. His stare almost as if pierces straight into the soul of the audience.
"Luhan, the deceiving mentalist."
It revolves again to focus on the purple haired guy with his most handsome smile.
"And Baekhyun, the skilled escape artist."
"Together, they bring the name of The Cuatro."
There's a deafening applause across the stadium.
"And one of you..." Kai comes down the extended stage. The applause and cheers die down slowly.
"One of you… might be the one we're looking for." The other two follow him down the stage.
"The last member of The Cuatro."
"It could be you, you, you... Or you." He points to a random guy sitting in the very front row.
"We will see."
All three of them do the same gesture of pointing their two fingers to their eyes. The audience applauds once more.
The Legend of The Cuatro has always been their opening skit of their shows. An introduction to their live Magic performances.
"Good evening, everyone." Baekhyun speaks through his microphone clipped through his suit.
"It's been my pleasure to meet all of you again tonight." He flashes his charismatic smile with a slight curtsy and the female population of their current audience cheers in delight.
Luhan watches the crowd roar in excitement.
Kai steps up.
The night has begun.
"And now, we'll perform a magic trick as our final act that will use all of our abilities. Yes, all three." Baekhyun announces to the audience.
A series of excited claps fill the hall.
"So watch closely." Luhan adds as he emerges from under the stage with a horizontal coffin.
Kai walks slowly to the middle where the coffin is. "Remember, the closer you look..."
"The less you see!"
The moment the audience responds a song starts playing to the tune of Linkin Park's The Catalyst. All three artists gather at the middle and start a little choreography with Kai spreading his arms over the sides of the coffin, demonstrating that it's empty.
As Kai continues showing the coffin, Baekhyun takes the spotlight as he reveals his familiar black cloak. He displays it to the audience, showing both front and back, before he puts it on.
"May I have a volunteer." Luhan summons a guy in a pinstripe suit from the upper section and calls him to the stage.
"Let me just make a short demonstration." He waves his hand in front of the guy's face.
"You hear me?" The guy nods very slowly.
Luhan snaps his finger once. The guy falls to the floor.
"Sleep hypnosis. This is real." Luhan continues.
"Stand." The guy stands on his feet, swaying sideways, still unconscious. Luhan positions his fingers.
And snaps.
The guy stirs and wakes up.
"I hope you had a good dream." Luhan smiles and the audience claps. The guy is led back to his seat.
"Now, Baekhyun?"
"Here!" Baekhyun raises his hand, fully dressed in black. He steps to where Luhan is.
"We'll do the same thing to Baekhyun."
Baekhyun lets out a shocked expression jokingly.
"But this time we will ask him to sleep...
In there."
Luhan points to the coffin. Baekhyun covers his mouth in fake fear.
Kai sits on the coffin and waves playfully to the audience.
"You know I can escape from there." Baekhyun teases.
"I know." Luhan agrees. "But Kai will make sure you don't."
The spotlight focuses on Kai this time. He pulls out four swords from behind him.
The crowd gasps.
"How many do we have, Kai?"
"One, two, three, four... five, six, seven, eight...
A total of nine." Kai answers like a kid promised a candy.
"Luhan. We used to be friends." Baekhyun starts with his act.
"I know." Luhan's eyes glint with malice. "This is why this will be painless."
"Come on, come on kids. Let's start." Kai claps his hands and opens the coffin.
"Will you please." Luhan leads Baekhyun closer to the coffin.
Baekhyun stands in front of the coffin, facing the audience with an angelic smile.
"Any last words?" Luhan asks.
"Uhm, enjoy?"
The crowd gives a nervous laugh.
"Say goodbye to your boyfriend." Luhan faces Baekhyun and touches the top of his head. He snaps his fingers close to his ear and Baekhyun falls towards Luhan. He easily catches him.
Luhan carries Baekhyun to the coffin effortlessly, his cloak dangling from his body. He places him on top of the soft cushion and tucks him in place. He arranges his limbs and he ends up putting him in a Snow White position.
"There."
Kai walks up to them. "Our princess is sleeping."
The audience laughs.
"Let me just..." Kai produces a white rose from nowhere and places it on his chest. "Beautiful."
Luhan shrugs. "Now I'm done, I'll just watch."
Kai bows to him. "Thank you, Master Lu."
They cover the coffin and place the locks at the sides. They all click to a shut.
With the help of Luhan, they let the coffin stand in a vertical position. Kai brings out the swords.
They glint dangerously with the light.
"Count with me."
"One." Kai sticks one sword to the side of the coffin. It passes straight to where Baekhyun's head is and comes out at the other side.
"Two."
It's getting more and more quiet as Kai sticks more swords to the coffin. Four at each side.
"For the last sword." Kai waves it to the crowd. "There's nowhere else to stick it to."
He sighs and the crowd holds their breath.
"Let's put it here."
Kai directs the sword to the chest of the coffin, exactly where Baekhyun's chest would be. The whole stadium gasps.
And Kai pushes it all the way til only the handle is visible. Everyone cries in terror.
Kai spreads his arms and bows.
"There's no more breathing." Luhan speaks quietly. And Kai looks at him almost immediately.
Panic rushes to them as Kai starts pulling the swords out.
The hall has gone really quiet as the sound of blades against wood echoes around the stage.
When everything else is pulled out, with Luhan helping from the other side, Jongin unlocks the coffin slowly.
No one speaks for a moment.
As the last one unlocks, Kai slowly opens the coffin door. And there reveals, Baekhyun sleeping.
Luhan snaps his fingers and he opens his eyes.
Everyone claps and Baekhyun steps out unsteadily. No one notices until his hood comes off.
Blood starts dripping from his cheek to his neck. Something red starts to stain the front of his shirt and it doesn't take more than a second for anyone to know what it is.
Baekhyun wipes his cheek with bloody hands. His face staring in horror at Kai's mirrored terror, before he turns dizzy and sways on his spot.
Kai faces the audience.
"I need a doctor!! Someone call me a doctor!!!"
Luhan searches the crowd. Baekhyun falls back on the floor, his black cloak covering the whole of him.
Kai is kneeling before Baekhyun's body, his back on everyone else. Someone in white doctor clothes from the audience hurriedly goes up on the stage.
"Where's the patient?"
The doctor gently pushes Kai away from Baekhyun's supposed body but it's gone and all there is is just a black cloak.
The crowd holds their breath. The doctor freezes at the scene.
He turns around to the audience.
"Did anyone see him?"
It's Baekhyun.
The crowd bellows with cheers.
