BOYS AND MEN Special Stage at Japan Travel Fair

Feb 19, 2016 14:58

Warning: This is going to be very long. And contains my face.

So last weekend (February 13th 2016), I went to watch BOYS AND MEN special stage at Aeon Mall BSD (yes it was actually in Southern Tangerang and not Jakarta, boys www). A little disclaimer beforehands: I don't know anything about BOYS AND MEN beside that the group had Kobayashi Yutaka and the members are somehow color coded? I did know that there were three trainees coming though (and recognized the hotel they were staying at immediately w).

Anne and I got there at around 1:00 PM because on Friday the first show was at 1:00 PM. We didn't know that on Saturday they actually started at 12:00. Oh well then, we had lunch first. Met a BOYS AND MEN fan whom Anne knew from twitter. I finished the three doodles for the trainees then. I forgot to take picture of the last doodle and can't remember which trainee got which doodle |D;;

We finished lunch and were chatting about fandom when suddenly! Three ninjas entered the food court! The second show of the day was about to start and the trainees were going around promoting themselves and their show to the passing crowd. I found myself getting pushed to give the envelopes containing doodle to them but I was so nervous I tried to give them twice to Kanade when they already said to give them to their staff hahaha. Sorry Kanade!

Raiga and Kanade were in charge of going around greeting people, with Kanade armed by a mini pocket dictionary. A kid curiously tried to peek into his dictionary and Kanade playfully hid the precious thing away hahaha.

All the while Setsura was on the stage by himself. He said things like "We are Japanese ninja! We will perform at 2:30 o'clock! Come on!" to us and to people at the upper floors above. His english was pretty good! Anne and I promptly took position at the front center of the stage and put our bags under the barrier. We are too used to watching idols performance wwww. And then I just stood there watching Setsura heheheh. The stage was so tiny and so close. He was just over a meter away!

Cuuuuuute X3

At around 2:30 PM a female MC from the travel fair staff joined Setsura on the stage, introducing BOIMEN and informing that they will hold a tour and interested people can buy tickets to Jp at the travel fair. All the while Setsura was bouncing and giving smiles beside her. She also said that there will be a photo session after the performance. Photo session!!!! Oooo!!!

By then there were already some BOIMEN fans joining in front of the stage too. The MC asked them about Setsura and we started calling him, to his delighted "TERIMAKASYI!"

The Special Stage started with the theme song of Ninja Boimen kun. The timing of them ascending the stage at the overture was perfect I think. And then... I have to say that I haven't watched the show and didn't know how the song would be performed. So I was (pleasantly) surprised when apparently there were hiprolls and hipthrusts involved wwww. When I watched Anne's fancam, I caught myself saying "Setsura hipthrust A" with feelings and made Anne go "Haaaah?" at me wwwwww /buries self in a hole

Second song was Nagoya Meshi no Uta. And it was... well. Let me tell you that Anne and I had a huge lunch that turned our table into some kind of carnage before the show but listening to them singing about food made me look at Anne miserably because I started feeling hungry. And of course Anne was also looking at me looking hungry too. That's how good the song and the performance was. I'm getting hungry just by writing this wwwwww

Suddenly it was the last song. Why so soon, sobs. The last song was Chance for Change. Soon after the song started, Raiga and Kanade went to the audience and did hightouch with everybody! Waaaa! Kanade accidentally stumbled on my bag, sorry again Kanade |||orz
I was waiting for Setsura's turn to get off the stage and finally after Raiga returned to the stage he jumped down and went my way! Yay! I got to hightouch with him and see that he wrote a cheat sheet on the palm of his left hand wwwww.

By the way, I like Setsura's singing voice, ehe.

And then it's time for photo session! We were around the back of the queue, after the BOIMEN fangirls. The audience were allowed to choose where we wanted to stand and with what pose. The boys taught us how to do the ninja seal hand pose and most of the people posed that way with them. I stood between Raiga and Setsura, but for the second pose I made half a heart with my hand and Setsura cheerfully completed it! (There were squeals from BOIMEN fans' general direction at this point wwww) Raiga and Kanade did their own heart too. Precious, precious boys ♡

Because we wanted to take a wefie, we got back to the queue. Anne's HTC Re was given to me. After we posed for the wefie, Setsura was staring at the periscope/inhaler looking thing.

Setsura: "IS THAT A CAMERA"
Me: "Yes!"
Setsura: "OH MY GOD! I DIDN'T KNOW!"
Me: /silently dies from cute overload

(That particular wefie turned out to be a failure though. I AM SO SORRY. WHY AM I SUCH A FAILURE.)

Didn't I say we got hungry? Because we were hungry after the excitement. So we got back to the food court and have some taiyaki and juice. I sat down and started drawing Setsura (if you haven't noticed already, he had became my favorite in the span of minutes). Thankfully I brought some markers, although there were no exact shade of blue Setsura was wearing.

Little did we know that the BOIMEN boys AND staffs chose to sit just three tables from us with a direct view from the producer-san's seat to our table. The boys were still walking around greeting merchants and visitors, promoting their tour. I... wanted to duck under the table when Raiga and Kanade went past our table wwwww. Please go somewhere else, boys! /////

When we went to refresh ourselves so we wouldn't look to shabby, we passed by Kanade again. We exchanged thumbs up gesture and let him know we were going to watch their performance again. He looked so happy hahaha. I didn't remember whether Anne already had the change of heart from Raiga to Kanade here. Have you, Anne? Www.

Afterwards I went to deliver the Setsura drawing. It was very embarrassing because I didn't have any envelopes anymore. The boys were preparing for the show (they took off their scarves and hand guards previously) nearby so I hurriedly gave the drawing to their staff. But I think someone must have poked Setsura because he turned and looked at it and started exclaiming something like "BEAUTIFUL!" I didn't really watch his reaction because I turned and ran away. Why didn't I bring extra envelopes orz

The last Special Stage that day was so crowded! Audience number nearly tripled I think. So many families with young kids asking to take photos together with the boys. We spotted some Japanese girls too, and one of them had a BOIMEN muffler towel! So Anne and I moved a bit to shimote, Setsura's side of the stage. We were hoping the girls can show us the furi because I feel the songs would be more exciting if us audience did some furi too, but we didn't know how. But when you already watched enough Japanese idols I think you can already feel how some rhythm are supposed to be accompanied with a particular movements. That was how I found myself and Anne doing kecha at Chance for Change. It was automatic wwww.

I think there was many glitches at the show. But maybe because of those unplanned little troubles that always plagues live performances (like Setsura's scarf which was not done properly and kept rotating itself www) that final performance was also very memorable for me. Those stolen half panicked glances at each other on that tiny tiny stage. Setsura grinning and sticking his tongue at us. Kanade making cute/weird faces. Raiga smiling, drenched in sweat. And maybe it's just my feeling but Setsura looked like he nearly cried at Chance for Change? I wanted to pat and comfort him >_<

Now as I looked back to that final performance of the day, it was a mixture of exciting and frustrating. Most of the crowd obviously didn't know what these boys were there for. They only looked at their costume and wanted to take pictures with them. The boys who cannot speak Indonesian couldn't inform them that there will be time for pictures later so they got stuck and couldn't do their practised routines, also missed their cues. Kanade and Raiga nearly didn't make it on time to the stage for the start of first song. When they went around for hightouch in third song, they got held back so long Setsura nearly couldn't do his round of hightouch. The queue for photo session afterwards was awfully packed. They looked tired and almost panicked but nevertheless they still smiled and welcomed people's request nicely. As we left the venue to get home, there were still more than 10 people on the line.

Such is the hard life of an idol, eh. I personally think they did a wonderful job. They deserve all the praise and support. I just got to interact with them but I already feel like I want to support them. Especially Setsura. Especially after Setsura wrote that he's glad there are people supporting them too in another country. That really made my day. So glad I could make him just that little bit happier. I hope I would be able to see BOIMEN performance and see Setsura again!

PS: if you notice any glaring mistakes, feel free to tell me OK. Also I'm sorry if I offend anyone. Please trust me when I say that it's not my intention to make anyone unhappy.
