“Finally!”
Wally was almost happy enough to fall to the ground and kiss it. He questioned why the founders of this city decided to locate their city at the top of a mountain. He had just spent the last week trying to navigate around the endless caves and tunnels trying to reach this point.
He looked around, soaking up the scenery. The city was high up enough that one didn’t see the ground when they looked down, but rather a sea of clouds. Adding the city’s northern location, it received fewer hours of sun (practically none during winter) allowing the city to wrap itself in a cloak of shadows. Tall skyscrapers reached for the sky like the peaks of mountain. The lights from them twinkled like the stars in the sky.
Wally took a deep breath, breathing out slowly. He had finally made it here. Gotham City, notorious for its flying and dark Pokemon, the City of Darkness, but more importantly it was home of the Batcave Gym, the last gym Wally needed to face before finishing his Pokemon journey for good.
“Wally?”
Speaking of the devil… A wide grin spread across Wally’s face as soon as he saw who it was. “Dick!” he exclaimed. He swung an arm around his best friend.
“It is you!” Dick said. His grin matched Wally’s in size.
Richard “Dick” Grayson was Wally’s best friend and a native from Gotham City. Up until a year ago, they were traveling together on their Pokemon Journey. That was until Dick had to return home for “family” business. It was part of the reason why Wally had saved Gotham City as his last. So he could spend time catching up with his best friend. Well there were other reasons, like technically Gotham the closest city to the Justice League Area and that he needed to confess ask Dick something which would conclude if Wally would be really giving up his Pokemon journey, but Wally digress.
“So why are you here?” Dick asked. When he had left this morning to make a run to the store, he didn’t think he would run into his best friend. The last letter Wally had sent him didn’t even hint that his best friend would be dropping by to say hello. In fact in his last letter, Wally said he was in Metropolis challenging The Fortress Gym.
“Eh,” Wally said with a shrug. “A number of things. I wanted to see you and I’m here to challenge the Batcave Gym.”
Behind his blue goggles, Dick blinked. “You’re here to challenge the Batcave Gym?”
“Yeah, why do you sound so surprised?”
“Cause you’re challenging me.”
“WHAT?!” Wally stared at Dick in shock. “When did you become Gym Leader?”
Dick scratched the back of his head. “You know when I had to come home a year ago?” Wally nodded. “Well yeah it’s because the Justice League finally tric-convinced Dad, Bruce, to become Champion? So I had to come home to figure out who would be taking over the gym. Was not aster at all.”
“I’m dead,” Wally moaned. Pokemon battles against Dick were always the worse. His best friend was crafty, so very crafty, that Wally ended up losing half the time! (It was actually more than that, but Wally liked to think otherwise so that his pride wasn’t so badly damaged all the time.)
Dick patted Wally on the back. “Well um, per the rules of the gym, you actually have to face my brothers first before you can battle me.”
Wally looked at Dick horrified. “All of them? Even Damien?!” Wally had met Dick’s brothers a few times and they terrified him. Except Tim, Tim was nice, Jason and Damien? They were little terrors.
Dick nodded. “You normally you would also have to face Cass and Steph, but Steph wanted to see the championship of Pokemon Contest so she dragged Cass along with her. Oh but you’ll have to face Alfred too.”
Wally paled. “Not Alfred, Dick! That’s cruel!”
Dick smirked. “Sorry, Wally. But if you want the badge you’ll have to go through us!”
