i am sooo jetlagged. it is 10h34 in Paris, or 1:30 AM California time, which is where i just was. I just dragged a 45 pound bag of snack food from the airport to my friend Anne's house. It was so surreal to be back on the RER and the metro and all these people were speaking French and I spoke French too! It was cool that I still could. Also maybe ( Read more... )

I remember, in learning German, that it did actually help, to be away from it for a while. I think my brain continued to study while I was unconscious!
And Tova says that she will fight you about bureaucracy. She thinks Israel's is worse. She has been trying for two weeks to use her frequent flyer miles to book a flight to Barcelona, and ElAl keeps telling her they will let her know.... blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I hope the bank people make life easy, to compensate for the long flight and the schlepping of the snack food.

Maybe your language skills have suffered, and maybe they haven't. Your " French language brain" continues to work while you're not using it, and maybe it even uses the down time to consolidate what you've learned when you're not under the constant user-pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if you find your facility increased.

Paris is very nice when you're not poor. Enjoy the coffee and the lunches.
