I am academi-ing out right now. I had two meetings with professors, one of whom invited me to create a Kermanian reading of Bakhtin (as if I was smart enough to do that) ... which led to me feeling super smart because to space and time (chronotope) I decided you could add velocity, which just gives me self-congratulatory scientoliterary shivers

The -very- short version of the medieval shame question is that Yvain breaks a serious promise to his lady love, and he doesn't feel ashamed about it! But he does feel guilt. These things are not the same, in literary land, with social constructs of guilt/shame/translations from old to new French/etc... in real life, it would just mean he's a jerk. ;)
