This summer was quite busy between PEI, Italy, then New Hampshire and Japan. While I love travel, I must admit, I am glad to be home ( Read more... )

IAN! Ian, I brought you things from home, and I volunteer to help -- Pretty Bird Woman House is SUCH a good charity. If you want S.A.F.E. there, I'm sure Jack and Sammie and I will be all for it.

I missed you!

Frankie! I brought you things from Italy and Japan! I hope that you and Jack will come over to dinner one night with me and Jane, I would very much like to see you both.

I would like SAFE at the party, that would be great.

I missed you too, Frankie. It's been much too long.

Yes, I know, I live with you, I could say this at home, but tough.

I'm glad to be home, too.

Also, women's shelters are also chronically in need of towels and sheets, as well, or if you have an old cell phone you want to get rid of, donate it with the charger, because they can repurpose them.

I think I can live with you say it, in public.

Yes, with regard to the need for towels and sheets. I was simply going to buy some as I did not want to encourage anyone from stealing from the dorms, but the need is great for them.

So yes, those are acceptable donations as well.

In addition to attending, I would very much like to donate. Would they prefer actual items or gift certificates of smallish denominations to allow the residents to buy things themselves, to ensure proper sizes and the like? Or some mix of same? I could quite easily put together small 'new resident' care packets of toiletries, grooming items, towels, etc., to allow them to give a new person the necessities quickly and readily as needed. Given the situations many of these women leave, they often find themselves with absolutely nothing in hand, and I thought that might be a good way to do things.

I might be able to negotiate some discounts with local businesses as well for the shelter, given that I've maintained good relationships with a lot of the local store-owners.

Hrm. Well, I have my old iPhone, I've upgraded, so I'll put that into the mix as well. I also have a box of clothing I don't wear any more, but that is still good quality and in good condition.

I tend to mix the items so they don't spend the money on the necessities and can put it towards the needs that don't always get attention.

Any help would be welcome, Ailey. Perhaps post party, you and Vlad can join us, or anyone else to help make up those new resident care packets.
