So I've only been in the state of Michigan for twelve hours, and already I've slipped back into my sinful American ways with surprising ease. I was forced to abandon my gluttony and sloth...titude? whilst in Spain, but I no sooner woke up this morning than poured myself a glass of Dr Pepper (which fails to exist in Europe! Gods, do something about ( Read more... )

Lol, when I went to Serbia in 8th grade after not being there for years and I was addicted to mountain dew, I almost DIED because there was no mountain dew. But that helped me kick my addiction and now I don't drink caffeinated beverages anymore ^_^ Except Fanta in europe is soooo gooooood.

I'm sorry to interrupt your comment conversation, but I just want to say that yes, I have questions about Spain. What did you do, what did you see, what new foods did you try besides Lemon Fanta? Stuff like that.

When I went around the world and got back to America like no0ne was even vaguely interested in my exploits because of American Bubble Syndrome. I hope everything has opened up more since. Perhaps in two years the US will become a Democratic country where people's votes will be considered and ties with foreign nations will improve. Anyways, how was Spain? I've never been out that way. Whereabouts did you travel?

I went to Tarragona, Cuenca, Toledo, Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona (all Spanish cities if you didn't know that, I didn't get to go anywhere else in Europe... This time...)

I doubt that foreign ties will improve very quickly, because they really hate us over... everywhere. Twice a Spanish man was hitting on a girl in our group (once it was me ><) and then when he found out she was American, he was thoroughly done with her. If their sex drive can be shut down for their abhorance of us, that's a good indicator that it will be a long time before things change.

Anyway I can't explain why people weren't interested in your travels, as everyone's quite fascinated by mine. Anyway, this trip is only the first of many. When I make it to Italy, we'll have to compare notes. Another well-traveled friend has told me that Naples was her favorite part, even above Rome. What did you think?

Ofcourse, I can read Spanish and speak some (Though not nearly as good as my Chinese or German) Spanish. You can't blame other countries for hating the US. That is pretty much 100% Americans' fault. And now you can't get a Spaniard for yourself because of it. If it weren't for Bush the hate would be far less, like when Clinton ruled.

Anyways.. It was probably because I am a foreigner that no0ne cared. I would advise you to stay away from all major cities. You should DEFINITELY head for the Costa Ligure area. The smaller historical cities are a must too. Don't get caught up in colloseums and cathedrals (Though those are beautiful) and the like. The small places in Europe are where it's at.

I totally agree, half the cities we went to were the three biggest cities in Spain, and while they were gorgeous beyond anything that exists in the United States, they were nothing compared to the three small towns, and if/when I go back I plan to go to more small towns definitely.
