Time to get over it

Nov 05, 2008 15:34

You know, I can understand that people are upset because their guy did not win, but you know what - get over it.  I cannot believe how some people including some on my flist have been striking out in anger and saying some very hurtful things not a few regarding race ( Read more... )

I suppose I can count myself lucky only to have (at least) one die-hard Republican on my flist, and she's been behaving herself. At least I think so - I have no desire to click on her lj-cuts. It sucks that you have to log into LJ and read something like that!

I've been seeing comments and have been silent, keeping my opinions mostly to myself. When I logged on this afternoon and starting seeing some of this stuff, I lost it.

Whatever happened to good sportsmanship and to being a person who can say, "Well fought. Congratulations!" Instead, they boo. How embarrasing for him. Why be ugly about it? I strongly suggest they go back and listen to the speech that McCain gave last night. The man was a class act. He was brilliant and I have the highest respect for him. Some of his supporters should follow his example.

I agree with you 100% about McCain - he was a complete gentleman and the fact that he was able to be so gracious and well-spoken just blew me away.

That's the person McCain truely is. I think his run for President was highjacked by the extreme right flank of the party including Palin. He was obviously not comfortable with the direction it went it - you could tell it. If we had seen more of the real McCain, he might have had a chance.

Politics is worse than sports, and some of it's fans are even worse. At this point, I don't care what anyone has to say about the end-result of the election, I'm just happy that the world FINALLY has a chance to recover from the past 8 years of BS. If certain people can't stand to acknowledge that and instead of objectively surveying the situation, choose to use hostile sentiment...hey, as my grandmother would say, tough tits. They lost. We won. Atlas sighed in relief.

You know, I think I need to stay off of LJ for a while. Some of the things I'm reading are really upsetting me. People are saying things that I just can't let go unanswered and it's not going well.

This is a good day and I'm not going to let a few people get under my skin with their insensitivity.

And no, I don't think I'm making too much of it. People need to understand that words can wound and they need to be careful when making negative generalizations about a whole group of people.

Why do people think they can say these things without challenge? What gives them the right?

I've seen some really bitter and surprising things, too. Makes me sad. :(

(Don't let it harsh your joy. Remember why we celebrate and what a huge victory it is to look forward in hope.)

*hugs*

Dang! Now they know how I felt 4 years ago and 8 years ago. In both cases, I went into a deep depression. I am so happy about the results of this election that nothing can get me down. The number of people who voted for the first time - I even heard of a very old man on NPR - is heartening. Instead of being in despair, they went out and MADE A DIFFERENCE! I really don't think they are going to forget that power ( ... )
