From A  Responsible Homeowner: I'm Not Mad

This is a great article regarding the morgage crisis.  It warms my heart to read a opinion piece  full of common sense and compassion instead of meanspiritness towards those that find themselves in this terrible, distressing situation.

Very well thought out piece.....the threat of foreclosure or "reposession" over here, hangs over many many people now, through no fault of their own.....this world financial crisis is hitting everyone in some way or another, as much as those who are fairly "comfortable" think it isn't....I've been having sleepless nights as I watch my investments fall lower and lower because of falling interest rates, and stock market crisis...in fact yesterday I took steps to do something about it.....yep, on the one day that markets took a massive tumble again and I'm going to come out of it with less money than ever....but I decided that I'd rather give up some of my luxuries like my travelling and new clothes, and put the money away safely where it might only gather a tiny amount of interest but wouldn't dwindle like it has been the past 6 months ( ... )

I didn't notice any mistakes and I make plenty of my own. :)

Oh Deeds. You have said what I have been struggling to say with more grace than I have been able to find the words to say. Bless you. I am so glad you made that change because you did what was best for you and the family. I've done this very thing. When things get better, I'll be more finanically adventureous but now, better to be safe. Well done.

I often find myself in despair as I hear some of the meanspirited comments coming from different people and they have been on the rise in this economic crisis. Who wants to be in this situation? How in the world can someone believe that to get a few government dollars someone would put their families through such heartache and hardship? I was raised to 'do unto others' by my dear sweet parents whose hands were always open to family, friends and neighbors. I can remember my mother taking hot food to seniors and bags of groceries to some families who were down on their luck all throughout my childhood. "There but for the ( ... )

If Jim's pension fund collapsed and I lost my savings we'd be in the position that we'd have to sell our house, I'd probably have to go out to work and do at least two jobs to survive.....it could so easily be us through a knock-on effect of economic situations we could not, in the grand scheme of things, control...

Would I be too proud to ask the Welfare State to help?....No I bloody wouldn't!...I'd grab every "free" thing I could and I'd thank the wonderful people who've paid their taxes for me to have such help....I'd be grateful and would do everything I could to try and make sure my husband was reassured that he wasn't "letting me down" by being unable to work thanks to his severe disability.....

Anyone can "scam" the system it's true, but anyone can fall by the wayside and desperately need it....it doesn't take much for it to happen - and I do mean ANYONE.....

"There But For The Grace of God" is never truer than now in these worrying times.....everyone should be aware of, and respect, that saying!!...

Deeds xx
