Crash

So
- worked Saturday, the "official" release date of Harry Potter and while it was pretty slow, I did ring up a bunch of books amid the coffees. My boss pissed me off by being completely clueless to the fact that I was the one person in the store who had the least amount of time beteween the time they went home and they time the came in the next day. Therefore instead of sending me home early, she told one of the later shift workers to come in late. And of course she did all of this by phone because she had overslept and was running late. Nice. But I got out of there and started vacation. I drove up to the Adirondacks, Kris read Harry Potter practically the entire time. I surprised my family who thought "I won't be there for dinner" meant "I'm getting there at 1 am." The cabin was really nice, right on the shore of Pleasant Lake. Kris and I got a wood paneled bedroom with 2 twin beds which got pushed together :)

-Sunday the weather was nice. We spent half the day hanging out on the dock and then after lunch went for a hike. Not the trail we were looking for. Apparently, there's a Pleasant Lake and a Lake Pleasant and nobody told us that till we got up there so all the info my mom had on things to do around Lake Pleasant was useless and we had to wing it. We still had a good time tho. Got back from the hike and sacked up and jumped in the lake which was nice but pretty cold. Grilling and good times were had by all for the rest of the night and the boys built a fire and we made smores and looked at stars until we got super cold.

-Monday and Tuesday were a haze of cloudy, cool, rainy weather. We played board games we'd brought, read and napped in intervals. At one point I found myself involved in a round of drinking Uno, where the Draw 2 card became Drink 2 etc. :) It started to clear up Tuesday afternoon. We hung out around the dock watching the boys skip rocks and some ducks swam by so we fed them for a while. They were cool because it was like two rival groups of ducks and if one from one group got to close to the wrong duck's bread? Duckfight! Heh. That was the night Kris made quesadillas to impress everyone. And after Seester took off we entertained ourselves with Scrabble and the Big Lebowski.

-Wednesday I wanted to go white-water rafting, but we really didn't get our shit together in time, so we rented some kayaks from a place down the road and spent the afternoon paddling around the lake, which was pretty cool. Saw some really neat things up close. Kris looked really outdoorsman-y which makes him both happy and adorable. I lingered swimming while Kris started to get our shit together to leave. Then, a brief scare where Stepdad thought he lost his wallet and scoured the entire cabin and grounds and then drove to the kayak place to see if he left it there only to discover he had put it in a different drawer than he thought he had. Nice. Anyway, glad he found it because it allowed him to treat us all to a really nice seafood dinner at a restaurant on a different lake which was delicious and fancy and awesome. After that, we had to get on the road. As soon as we got back in cell phone range, we discovered that several people were worried that we hadn't been answering our phones, so I guess our society is officially completely dependent on technology.

-Thursday I crankily got back to work. At least I found out I don't have to work with Tooly McDouchebag anymore. I spent the rest of the night finishing Harry Potter. I will reserve my public reaction until the rest of the world has a fair chance to finish it. And Kris and I caught up on our cooking shows. 'Cause we're geeks.

Yesterday, all was going well. I had a whole estrogen-y weekend planned out. I cut out of work early to do some errands, the last of which being dropping some letters in a mailbox I usually don't go to that's a couple blocks from my house. I could have just left the letters to be picked up from my own mailbox tomorrow. And I could have just walked to the mailbox from my house when I got home. But no, I took a route a never take and put myself in a place I would never normally otherwise be that I totally didn't have to be at. I pulled up to a stop sign a block from my place, paused and looked as far as I could see with parked cars lining the street, and proceeded into the intersection. Where I crashed into a woman who was coming down the street that I couldn't see because of the cars who was obviously speeding because if she hadn't been, she wouldn't have reached the intersection from the area of the street that I could see in the time it would have taken me to cross through the intersection. No one was hurt. She had her three young nieces and teenage son in the car, all of whom were scared but fine. The neighbors stood around and gawked, one gave me a bottle of water, another, a hug. The cops came and gave me a ticket because she said that I completely ignored the stop sign and I'll be in court to contest that on Friday. Both cars were towed away, hers more damaged than mine. And I carried my shit the one block back to my house and all is well. I'm going to have a slight pain in the ass getting around for the next week, I'm going to pay a considerably small decductible because three years ago my mom talked me into getting kickass coverage, and my rates are going to go up. But no one was hurt and the cars will be fixed and I'll fight the ticket and everything will be fine.

Man, that sucked. Everything was finally fine again and then this happened because this woman was in a hurry to go have a Burger King picnic with her nieces before the fries got cold.
