My Saiyuki addiction is now almost as pathetic as my KHR obsession.

Because I've read so much about Saiyuki from both lawless523 and mibelle26, I finally started reading it... and now I'm hooked. Because I'm so hopelessly and shamelessly addicted, I decided to start watching the anime (now that I'm on volume 8 in Saiyuki Reload).

I spent much of the first episode thinking that Sanzo sounded familiar, and then I discovered why... he ( Read more... )

Isn't Saiyuki yummy?

And do you ever think "Eiri and Shuichi" about Sanzo and Goku? I'm actually writing a story in which Shuichi cajoles Eiri into cosplaying Sanzo and Goku with him at Comiket, along with Hiro as Gojyo and Sakano (!) as Hakkai.

Yes, it is quite yummy indeed! I'm so glad I finally got around to reading it. XD

I do see Eiri and Shuichi in those two! The more I get into Saiyuki, the more I see it.
Oh, I'd love to read that story when it's finished! What a fun idea! Omg, Hiro as Gojyo and Sakano as Hakkai! LoL! Sounds awesome! Actually, when I have some time, I want to read your Saiyuki fics, now that I know what Saiyuki's all about.

It's funny, the more I read of Saiyuki, the more I see differences between Sanzo and Eiri and Goku and Shuichi, but there are definitely similarities of personality as well as other similarities. After all, the two blonds are both Buddhist monks, though Sanzo, for all his self-labeling as an unbeliever and a bad Buddhist, is definitely better at it and more into it than Eiri is. I do find it amusing that Sanzo is from a Zen tradition and yet is so unZen personally, though maybe it's the Zen tradition that helps him be better at it and more into it than Eiri. I've seen a suggestion on GMM, which I tend to agree with, that Eiri's family is from the Pure Land strand of Japanese Buddhism, which is very different from Zen ( ... )

At first, I really rejected the idea of Sanzo and Goku being similar to Eiri/Shuichi. I wrote it off as my fangirly imagination. But there are a lot of similarities. Though right now, I like to look at the differences between them as well as the similarities. Sanzo is definitely a better monk than Eiri, no matter what Sanzo says about himself. I would have to agree with the idea that Eiri's family is likely from the Pure Land sect. Idk much about Buddhism outside of Zen, but that makes sense to me, based on my tiny bit of understanding of Pure Land ( ... )
