I Believe
31_days, September 5
There will be an And They Live Happily Ever After in his story. That is what Jeanne believes, and that’s what he wants above anything else. He swears by his non-existent father’s deathbed he will meet such end, and if he doesn’t, then by all means the heaven can hit him hard with a thunderbolt. (Or give Selene the privilege to smash his face against her knee. Either way works quite well.)
Thus as they all watch the slow crumbling of the Niebelheim tower, Jeanne can finally feel the lifting of apprehension in his chest. Finally, he thinks, I can have my happy ending now.
“It’s over, isn’t it?” Zide asks; his voice lower and softer from exhaustion.
Tired; that’s the word that can best define them for now. Tired from this fight, tired of this fight-whatever. It doesn’t matter anymore though, because it ends here now. This much he’s sure of, and in case it won’t be like that, then he guesses he’ll just have to make it happen.
Suddenly, the earth quakes, so powerful some of them fall. Faintly, he hears Selene curse quite colorfully. He couldn’t help but smile at that, glad for once that his girl isn’t like any other girl. (Then again, as long as she’s not like Aki, whatever will do.)
Aki follows that string of curse, screaming, “Don’t tell me that dude isn’t dead yet! We kicked his ass so bad he shouldn’t be coming back!”
“It seems like that’s not the case,” Jeremy mutters, clutching his tonfas’ grips tighter. Beside him, Shaina whines a little, and Jeanne is sure he doesn’t mean her fair share of cusses. Girls these days are too scary, he concludes with amusement. (But he has the feeling it’s just Niebelheim girls.)
Without a word, the seven heirs of the seven Niebelheim families compress together, standing around each other as they brave the new wave of evil with their new resolve. Deep inside, Jeanne reassures that this will be the last battle, whether Fate likes it or not.
Not even heaven nor hell can stop them anymore.
