So my marriage hasn't been what one might consider "happy" for quite some time. We are essentially little more than roommates these days, and more and more I just want to be anywhere but there ( Read more... )

FYI, child support is set by statute in Texas. I do not know what the current percentages are, but I'm pretty sure you can look it up online. It goes something like (guessing from memory) the non-possesory conservator (the parent who the kids don't live with) gives 20% of net income if there is one child, +5% for each additional child, up to 40% total. You want it set up as a direct debt/deposit, which is standard for people who have real jobs ( ... )

Thank you. I think the custody / visitation arrangement you mentioned is really what I had in mind - the kids living primarily with me. At this point, my oldest is nearly 13, and from what you said she'd be able to choose who to live with. Given the recent state of her relationship with her father, I'm guessing she'd choose to live with me, but of course there's no guarantee.

Yes, this is hard, and not liable to get any easier for a little while. Bleh.
