falseeeyelashes prompted: Alice in Wonderland -- crossed over with The Wizard of Oz!
i. the concept
"I almost wish I hadn't gone down that rabbit-hole," thought poor Alice, "And yet--and yet--it's rather curious, you know, this sort of life! I do wonder what can have happened to me! When I used to read fairy-tales, I fancied that kind of thing never happened, and now here I am in the middle of once! There ought to be a book written about me, that there ought! And when I grow up, I'll write one."

okay I love this concept so much and so I have a lot of things to say about it.
Obviously, Tim Burton's so-called Alice in Wonderland is a travesty with absolutely the most minimal of connections to the original story, and should be treated as such. I used it because, well, I like his designers. The White Queen is only in there because she looks so much like Glinda. Unfortunately, given the absolute lack of any events similar to the book (other than the tea party with the Mad Hatter, whose design is grotesque), I ended up pulling a screencap - the one of the cards flying at Alice - from the 1949 French/British film adaptation of the story.
Also can I talk about these books and how many feelings I have about them??? I have a lot of feelings. For one thing, I find it fascinating that none of the many film adaptations of Alice live up to the book in any way, but the single film adaptation of Oz can pretty solidly be classified as better than the book. When I was looking for quotes, I flipped through my copy of Alice and instantly had about 10 million clever quotes from Alice to use. Then I scrolled through an e-book of Oz and realized, to my horror, that Dorothy never does or says anything except for "I'm Dorothy, and I'm going to the City of Emeralds to ask the Wizard to send me home!"
At that point, I was tempted to use a quote from Wicked (the book, not the musical), but Dorothy doesn't say anything very relevant in that, either. Those books are my preferred version of events, in fact, because the original Oz books are a little... well - I loved them as a child! But reading them now, Baum's horrendous politics start to show, and Maguire's books are like the perfect critique. Anyway, this has the unfortunate result of making me cry when I watch Dorothy kill the Witch.
In any case, now I want to write fanfiction for this. I want Alice to meet Dorothy and give her some moxie. Have I mentioned that Alice is one of my favorite protagonists of all time and no film adaptation has done her justice? Because... it is true.
